LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE alum Melissa Gilbert is returning to the frontier world as a guest star in WHEN CALLS THE HEART Season 12.
“WHEN CALLS THE HEART has long drawn comparisons to LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRARIE, for its charming and compelling stories of hope, human connection and frontier survival,” said Kelly Garrett, vice president of Hallmark Media programming, during the annual Hearties Family Reunion event. “It was only fitting that the first people to hear this special news were the Hearties — devoted fans who have celebrated the show year after year and made it such a success. The energy being here with them to share this news is electric and we cannot wait for them to meet Georgie next year.”
Gilbert will join the show as Georgie McGill, who “shares a surprising past with one special Hope Valley resident.” She will be featured on the show through a special two-episode story arc.
The fans aren’t the only ones looking forward to the collaboration as Gilbert and WCTH star Erin Krakow shared their excitement as well.
Just a couple of prairie girls!” Krakow wrote on an Instagram post with Gilbert. “Grateful and honored @melissagilbertofficial has joined us in Hope Valley! Total pro, so down to earth, sweet as pie – and fun at parties. 😜”
WHEN CALLS THE HEART is Hallmark’s longest-running series to date, and it’s no question why. Season 11 was the most-watched cable show in 2024 among households, total viewers and women over the age of 18.
Season 12 was announced this summer and promises to continue delivering for old and new fans alike. Though the new season has yet to have a set release date, it is expected to come during the first half of 2025.

We are proud to tell stories that warm hearts in homes around the world and so grateful to Hallmark for being such champions of that positivity.”
“Having the Hearties’ support over the past decade has been a true testament to what this show is all about: community and love,” she continued. “We cannot wait for our fans to see what Hope Valley has in store!”
