MY PENGUIN FRIEND Explores This Biblical Command
By Movieguide® Contributor
MY PENGUIN FRIEND isn’t specifically a faith-based film, but it conveys a lot of truths about God’s world nonetheless.
“I really believe that we are called to be stewards of this beautiful world that we live in,” producer Jonathan E. Lim told Movieguide®.
He explained that MY PENGUIN FRIEND “reinforced that theme of stewardship and also just putting ourselves in others’ shoes, whether, you know, those shoes are human or animal.”
“We wanted this to be something that touched people’s hearts in addition to entertaining them with just, you know, all of the different scenes with the penguin,” Lim added. “So, that theme of friendship, having the power to transform a grieving family was really important to us, and it’s really just a beautiful picture of how God’s creatures have that ability as well.”
Inspired by a true story, MY PENGUIN FRIEND follows DinDim the Penguin and the lives he changes.
“This enchanting adventure is about a little lost penguin who — after being rescued from an oil spill — transforms the life and soul of the heartbroken fisherman. The penguin and the fisherman become unlikely friends, so bonded that even the vast ocean cannot divide them,” a synopsis reads.

Movieguide® praised its “Very strong moral worldview with redemptive values where people support one another.” Part of the review reads:
MY PENGUIN FRIEND tells a beautiful, heartfelt story of a lost penguin helping a fisherman heal from tragedy. The movie has no explicit Christian or biblical elements, but it stresses taking care of God’s creation, forgiveness and the importance of a loving marriage in the face of tragedy. The movie also displays the power that community can have for people. MY PENGUIN FIREND has several sequences of peril, for both humans and animals, including a scene where a boy apparently drowns. The scene isn’t graphic, but MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.
MY PENGUIN FRIEND will arrive in theaters tomorrow, Aug. 16.
