Nationals Outfielder Keeps Trusting God for Success

By Movieguide® Contributor

Washington Nationals outfielder Alex Call is on a hot streak.

Per Sports Spectrum, “Since being called up from Triple-A Rochester in late July, the 29-year-old has been on a tear. Call has recorded at least two hits in each of Washington’s last six contests, and on Friday night at home against the Los Angeles Angels, his third hit of the evening sent Nationals Park into a frenzy as his walk-off single won the game, 3-2.”

His success doesn’t define him, though.

“I’m the same guy, same player, just gonna give it all I have every day,” Call told MASN Sports. “Work hard and believe in myself and just trust in God that the results are gonna be there.”

The athlete is very open about his faith on his social media platforms, too.

In one post from 2022, Call expressed his gratitude for a great year with the Nationals.

“That’s a wrap for this season! The emotions from this season are indescribable,” he wrote. “What an incredible journey not only this year was but the last 6 years leading up to this point! I thank God for everyday and did my best to soak up every moment. So grateful for all the relationships and memories made with my teammates from several different teams and organizations.”

In another post, he said, “Thank you to all the fans as well as my friends and family for making this year so much fun! I can’t thank you enough for the support! I’ll never forget all the memories made this year! Truly an amazing blessing that I will never take for granted. Can’t wait for next year!”

Call joined the “Sports Spectrum” podcast last summer where he talked about his faith.

“Obviously this is something I want — to be in the major leagues — but also I want to be where He needs me,” Call said. “And I want to be available and present to whatever He has for me.”

Movieguide® previously reported on another baseball player who’s grateful to God for his career:

Cam Booser, one of the oldest rookie players on the Boston Red Sox, is thanking God for the opportunity.

“I think that was just understanding the moment and understanding where I was. And really just thanking God for the opportunity, and just understanding what a blessing it was to step onto that mound tonight,” the 32-year-old told reporters of his MLB debut earlier this year.

Per Sports Spectrum, “The left-handed Booser has made 27 relief appearances with the Red Sox so far this season, with a 3.00 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 30 innings pitched. But as is often the case, that first appearance is seared into his mind forever (April 19 in Pittsburgh). It’s one he’d envisioned millions of times…”

“I had to thank God for the blessing of just being able to have that opportunity just to be able to stand on that field with the Boston Red Sox,” he said of getting to play with the team. “It’s still crazy to me to even say.”
