Netflix will expand its younger audience through the release of multiple new children’s shows and a child-focused gaming app, Netflix Playground.
“Netflix Playground is your destination for an ever-growing library of instantly playable games for kids aged 8 and younger, available exclusively to Netflix members,” Netflix explained in a press release. “The mobile app is full of enriching experiences designed to spark creativity, laughter, and fun with your kids’ favorite characters – all ad-free with no in-app purchases or extra costs.”
The app, which is available to download now, already includes games featuring Peppa Pig, Sesame Street, Storybots, Bad Dinosaurs and multiple Dr. Seuss characters like Horton, the Sneetches and the Red Fish, Blue Fish story.

“We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters…” John Derderian, Netflix Vice President of Animation Series and Kids & Family TV, said of the new gaming app. “Watching and playing on Netflix can be the fun and easiest part of every family’s day.”
Along with the gaming app, Netflix revealed a slew of new children’s content coming to the platform: a third season of TRASH TRUCK, new episodes of THE CREATURE CASES, MS. RACHEL, SESAME STREET and COCOMELON LANE, along with the launch of a new musical series, YOUNG MACDONALD.
For years, streamers have understood that the child audience is the most important demographic to reach as they have the most free time to consume content. Nieslen’s charts reflect this reality as shows like BLUEY and COCOMELON often end the year as the No. 1 title across all streaming genres.
The fight to capture this audience mainly plays out between Netflix and Disney battling to secure the rights to the most popular children’s IPs. Meanwhile YouTube has become a breeding ground for high-quality children’s entertainment with many of the most popular children’s shows starting as a YouTube channel.
YouTube has also brought content onto its platform to suit the younger audience, and at the beginning of this year, it secured the rights to the majority of SESAME STREET’s library, bringing hundreds of episodes to the platform for viewers to enjoy for free.
“Today, more families than ever before gather around the TV screen to watch YouTube. That’s why we’re excited to announce an expanded partnership with SESAME STREET to bring more of their beloved content to families who are tuning in…” YouTube said in a statement. “Beginning in January of 2026, YouTube will have the largest digital library of SESAME STREET content, with hundreds of full episodes coming to the platform. Alongside this collection of episodes, SESAME STREET will continue to post content created especially for the YouTube audiences, all featuring the iconic and lovable Muppets of SESAME STREET.”
It is fascinating to see how children’s content continues to serve as the most lucrative space for streamers to invest in. Whether Netflix’s push will pay off, though, is yet to be seen, especially in regard to its children’s gaming platform.
