Packers QB Gives Glory to God After Win

Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis filled in for the injured starter Jordan Love on Sunday and led his team to victory.

Per Crosswalk Headlines, Willis “completed 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown and ran for 41 yards in his team’s 16-10 victory over Indianapolis at Green Bay. The Packers evened their record at 1-1.”

After the game, Willis told the media, “It feels awesome. I’ve just got to give all the glory to God for giving me this opportunity.”

When asked if he was proud of his performance, he remained humble.

“I don’t get proud,” he said. “We’ve got a lot to work on, obviously, and we’ve just got to continue to get better and work hard, and we’ll see where Jordan’s at [health-wise] and continue to prepare.”

Willis shared on his X profile after the game, “Thankful for another opportunity to glorify God. TGFE [Thank God for everything].”

He also included Nahum 1:7, which says, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.”

The Packers led the Indianapolis Colts 10-0 and were faced with a “third-and-10 from their own 47-yard line late in the first half.”

Head coach Matt LaFleur was puzzled as to why Willis didn’t throw the ball, however, the answer he got was one he wasn’t expecting.

“I asked Malik why he didn’t throw the ball on third down, and he told me that Josh threw up on the ball,” LaFleur explained, talking about Packers center, Josh Myers. “I was like, ‘That’s the first time I’ve ever heard that.’ Matter of fact, the official came over to me, Shawn [Hochuli] came over to me and said, ‘We saw your center throwing up on the ball, do you want us to take him out next time?’ I said, ‘Absolutely, please do that.’ Because you’re talking about a critical situation, and it’s third down, and I’ve never had a throw with vomit on a football. I think Malik probably didn’t appreciate that.”
