The latest addition in the UK’s most endearing marmalade-loving bear franchise, PADDINGTON IN PERU, is slated for release on Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend next year.

Originally set for a Jan. 17 release date, the “news comes in the wake of the Dougal Wilson directed threequel notching the best UK opening for a British production since 2021’s NO TIME TO DIE at a 3-day of £9.65M ($12.4M),” Deadline reported. “That bow also repped the highest-ever for Studiocanal. The 2014 original opened to £5.1M, and the 2017 sequel did £8.2M in its debut. Combined, the previous two films grossed $600M worldwide.”

The third movie earned over $30m in the UK over three weeks. It will be released in France, Germany, Benelux, Poland, Australia and New Zealand, China, Japan, along with the U.S.

“Sony opened the original PETER RABBIT in 2018 in the pre-Valentine’s/Presidents Day frame where it racked up a solid $25M before legging out to $115.2M. The other upside to going later is that PADDINGTON 3 will steer clear of any crazy holdover business by family foursome WICKED, MOANA 2, MUFASA and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 3,” Deadline said. “PADDINGTON 3 will be the only family film in the marketplace until SNOW WHITE on March 21, 2025.”

In PADDINGTON IN PERU, Paddington and the Brown family set out on a trip to visit Paddington’s dear Aunt Lucy, a resident of The Home for Retired Bears. Their journey isn’t so straightforward, however, as a mystery compels them into the Amazon up Peru’s mountain peaks.

In 2015, PADDINGTON opened in the U.S. with $18.9 million, and the sequel opened with just $11 million in 2018.

PADDINGTON and PADDINGTON 2 both won Movieguide® Teddy Bear Award®s.

PADDINGTON IN PERU’s stars include “Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, and Jim Broadbent…alongside Imelda Staunton, Carla Tous, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, with Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas, and Ben Whishaw returning as the voice of Paddington,” Screen Daily said.

“Rosie Alison produced Paddington In Peru, and the executive producers are Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Dan MacRae, Paul King, Jeffrey Clifford, Rob Silva and Tim Wellspring.”
