Gracie Abrams, singer and daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams, is warning against the dangers of watching porn.

“Young people need to learn about sex from a reputable resource…or a strong mentor, not just scrolling aimlessly online like I did,” the artist said in a recent interview. She noted that porn “is dangerous, not real and a performance” and very harmful to young people who try to gain information about sex by watching it.

She’s not the only pop star to express her concerns about pornography. In 2021, Billie Eilish said she used to watch it frequently, which she regrets.

“I think it really destroyed my brain and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn,” she said. “I think that I had sleep paralysis, and these almost, like, night terrors — just nightmares. I think that’s how they started, because I would just watch abusive [pornography], and that’s what I thought was attractive, and it got to a point where I couldn’t watch anything unless it was violent, and I didn’t think it was attractive.”

She added that she’s “so angry” porn is “so loved” in modern culture. “I’m so angry at myself for thinking that it was OK,” she said.

Several other celebrities are aware of porn’s dangers, including Russell Brand and Terry Crews.

Brand said, “Our attitudes toward sex have warped and perverted and have deviated from its true function as an expression of love and a means of procreation. I heard a quote from a priest who said: ‘Pornography is not a problem because it shows us too much. It’s a problem because it shows us too little.’” He pointed out that porn has twisted the idea of what love is and noted how it objectifies women and damages relationships.

Pamela Anderson, who’s on the cover of many Playboy magazine issues, recently called porn “a public hazard of unprecedented seriousness” and an “experiment in mass debasement.”

Terry Crews has an incredible testimony about how his addiction to porn almost destroyed his marriage. “Pornography, in a lot of ways, it really, really messed up my life…My wife was literally like, ‘I don’t know you anymore. I’m out of here.’” Even though Crews even cheated on his wife, she forgave him and stuck with him as he got counseling and went to rehab.

Blake Lively has also spoken out about the dangers of child pornography. She said, “The Kids are getting younger and the content is getting much more devastating,” noting that porn is also harmful to kids who view it.
