Pop Star Issues Warning About the Occult During Halloween
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Jeannie Ortega is warning people not to engage with occult elements, especially during this Halloween season.
“We’re in a season where people love to celebrate evil and darkness,” Ortega said in an interview with Movieguide®.
She shared that she has her own experiences with the dangerous effects of occultism.
“I grew up with my family practicing the occult,” Ortega said. “I’m from a Latin background, and Santeria is very big [with] Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican families, and it’s like a mix of a false sense of Catholicism with worship of the dead.”
She explained, “I didn’t know anything spiritually growing up, but I always knew I didn’t feel at ease — something was wrong, this was not good…it really is a false sense of spirituality.”
Ortega said a “high priestess” was even “grooming” her to take over that role before she ended up finding God.

“I don’t play when it comes to evil,” Ortega emphasized. “I don’t play when it comes to even the celebration of evil or anything like that, because I understand the spiritual doors that open, so this song, ‘Devil You Can’t,’ that I did is, basically, I’m talking back to the devil.”
She concluded, “There’s only one spirit that we should be in communication with, and that’s the Holy Spirit.”
Ortega posted about “Devil You Can’t” on her Instagram page, writing, “THERE’S A BATTLE for our families. Couples fighting, children broken, not wanting to be here anymore, confused, angry, lost, identity crisis. We’ve been taking it sitting down, BUT NOT ANYMORE!!!!!! #NotTodaySatan. We have authority in Christ to BREAK CURSES! Sing it with me.”
Speaking to the Christian Post about her commitment to making music that promotes her faith, Ortega said, “I used to be so loud for the enemy, so after I became a Christian, I decided to become loud for Jesus, and so the enemy was relentless. He hates people that are willing to speak the truth and are willing to share the love of Jesus.”
“In my ignorance, I thought I would always be safe within the church,” she continued. “But Satan used church people — even the pastor — to attack me. But what Satan forgot was that God and I now had history, and my tangible relationship with Him is what helped me through.”
Ortega is continuing to spread her Christian faith through her latest album, Letting Go.
“My hope is that when people listen to it, they’re inspired to get gut-wrenchingly honest with God and release and surrender…because that’s the issue,” she told Movieguide®. “So many of us are afraid of our own emotions, our own feelings, we’re afraid to even let go to look at ourselves in the mirror and say ‘I’m not happy’ or ‘I’m sad’ or ‘I’m disappointed, my heart is broken.’ I want those moments to happen so that they can then process with God and begin their freedom.”
