MASKED SINGER Contestant: I Hope Jesus Forgives Me For Lying

By Tess Farrand, Associate Content Editor

Singer/performer Michelle Williams hopes that Jesus will forgive her for lying on Fox’s reality competition THE MASKED SINGER.

THE MASKED SINGER brings major celebrities to the stage in ostentatious costumes to perform. The catch is, no one knows who is behind the mask.

On Tuesday, Dec. 3, Williams, who was in Destiny’s Child, got the boot.

Williams said her Christian faith prompted her ask Jesus for forgiveness for lying to audiences.

She told The Wrap:

“As a person of faith, you’re not supposed to lie. And I was like, ‘Jesus, I’ve been lying since September and I hope you’ve forgiven me for that, because that’s a good bulk of lying,’” she said.

“I think so, I pray. I hope I’m forgiven. It was for a good cause,” she added, with a laugh. “No one’s life was compromised by this, so I think I’m forgiven.”

Williams felt she was lying by not revealing her true identity to the judges or audience members. Williams dressed as a butterfly for the competition but feels she could’ve disguised her voice by singing another genre.

William told Entertainment Weekly, “First of all, I’m a church girl, and I come from the church of great music and singing. I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on me to try to disguise my voice, but mainstream hasn’t really heard my voice… I should have done some rappin’ or something.”
