This Streamer Leads the Pack When it Comes to Market Share of US Customers

When you think of big streamers, the first one you think of might be Netflix with its 282 million subscribers — but Prime Video actually had the biggest market share of U.S. customers in 2024.

Prime ended the year 22% above market share. Not bad, Amazon.

However, it’s not clear if its success is due to its content or the fact that Prime Video is tied in with Amazon Prime service. TVB found that only 4% of its subscribers are signed up with the streamer alone. Most use the service as part of their prime membership.

Netflix had 21% of the market share in 2024. The Streamable posits that Netflix actually has the true majority of market share as subscribers use the platform solely for its content.

Max had 13% of the market share, Disney 12% and Hulu 11%. Apple TV+ had 7%, and Peacock had only 1%.

In 2024, Amazon rolled out its ad-supported streaming tiers, which turned out to be a successful move for the company. Emarketer estimates that 80% of Amazon’s 130.4 million Prime Video users in the U.S. use its ad-supported tier. In comparison, 37% of U.S. Disney+ subscribers use Disney’s ad-supported tier and Netflix has 70 million global ad-supported subscribers.

As Prime provides over 10,000 shows, movies, originals and NFL live THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, it seems like it doesn’t have anywhere to go but up.

Prime Video and Netflix each have two movies in Just Watch’s top 10 most streamed movies list in the U.S. in the last 30 days. Max and Hulu each have three, and Peacock has one — sitting in the No. 2 spot. As for TV shows, Paramount+’s LANDMAN has been the most popular the last 30 days, with SILO coming in second on Prime and Apple TV+

YouTube star MrBeast’s new game show, BEAST GAMES, recently made a new record for Prime. It garnered 50 million views in its first 25 days since premiering Dec. 19. It’s Prime’s most streamed unscripted show ever and went No. 1 on Prime in over 80 countries.
