Roma Downey Reminds Us ‘Who is Really in Charge’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Roma Downey is reminding us to trust in God during turbulent times.
She shared a graphic on Instagram with Psalm 46:10 — “Be still and know that I am God.”
“Lets take time today to turn the election news off and just be quiet for a moment and in the quiet feel the presence of God,” she wrote in the post’s caption. “Whatever the results, whether we are excited or disappointed by the voting outcome we should always remember who is really in charge.”
Downey frequently speaks about her faith as well as the value she places on promoting her faith in the acting projects she takes on.
“Not everybody is able to bring what they believe into what they do, particularly in show business,” she told Fox News. “But I’ve consistently done that from my days on TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, through producing THE BIBLE series to last Easter’s Prime Video movie, ON A WING AND A PRAYER with Dennis Quaid, which was a story of hope and faith.”
She added, “I’m committed to telling stories that inspire and uplift. It’s a space I want to be in. It’s the work that I think is important.”
Downey has also spoken about the desire audiences have for faith-based content.

One of her most recent projects is THE BAXTERS, a series for Amazon Prime based on Karen Kingsbury’s bestselling novels.
“Everybody’s got a family. Every family’s got problems,” Downey said of the show’s characters. “But for people of faith, I think it will be very meaningful to see a church-going family leading this story…For me, since TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, I haven’t really been on television much. I’ve mostly been producing and writing. And so, to get back in front of the camera [and play] Elizabeth Baxter has been very fun.”
THE BAXTERS was a success with fans and critics alike, receiving a 75% on Rotten Tomatoes and a favorable review from Movieguide®.
