Seph Schlueter is quickly becoming one of the biggest new artists in contemporary Christian music, and his recent RIAA Platinum certification for his hit song “Counting My Blessings” shows his rise isn’t slowing down.

“Schlueter’s debut single, ‘Counting My Blessings,’ has become a defining anthem, topping Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart for four non-consecutive weeks (including a three-week consecutive run), while also holding the No. 1 position on Billboard AC for four consecutive weeks,” a press release said of the song’s success. “The track further dominated Mediabase, reaching No. 1 in Impressions for two consecutive weeks and No. 1 on the AC chart for four consecutive weeks.”

Schlueter received the award from Sony Music/Provident Entertainment “with plaques honoring his platinum-certified hit and radio achievements at The Pinnacle Rooftop in Nashville, ahead of his performance closing the Crowder LIVE! Tour.”

The song is an anthem of praise for all the ways God blesses us. The now recognizable chorus goes:

God, I’m still counting my blessings

All that You’ve done in my life
The more that I look in the details
The more of Your goodness I find
Father, on this side of Heaven
I know that I’ll run out of time
But I will keep counting my blessings
Knowing I can’t count that high

“I was in the writers’ room with [songwriters] Jordan Sapp and Jonathan Gamble, and Jonathan actually came in with most of the chorus,” Schlueter previously told K-LOVE of the story behind the song. “And so then that kind of got us talking about that reality of counting blessings and how we were living in the answer to prayers we had prayed years ago. Years ago, we had prayed for this to happen in our careers, and this to happen in our lives, and this to happen in our families. It’s like, this is happening; and we have so much to be grateful for.”

That led him to thank God for the musical journey that he’s on.

“I feel like for us, the song came from that place of just pausing and thanking God for what He’s done. I’ve heard it said, ‘If you wake up tomorrow with only the things you thank God for today, what would you still have?’ And it’s like, wow, that’s a gut check,” the singer reflected.

He added, “I want to actually get in the habit of thanking God, of counting my blessings, of seeing where He is, so that in any moment — whether it’s an easy moment or a hard moment — I can see His fingerprints.”

One of Schlueter’s latest songs, “Valley of Worship,” comes from the tragic loss of his and his wife’s baby girl, Charlotte Davy, at 20 weeks.

“One of these other writers who came in for a second write asked, ‘Hey, I saw this happen. How are you guys doing?’ And it was just a beautiful opportunity to open up, talk about it and share and write from that place,” Schlueter said of the song’s beginning. “…Both of us had gone through a loss, a heartbreak and had journeyed through it to some extent, to where we see how God was still moving in the midst of it. So, it was so beautiful. We were able to kind of write this song, and be able to just share this testimony of, “man, God, you are still moving. You were so good. You were still worth our worship, even when it’s hard.”

He recently posted a video of his baby daughter, Aurora, worshipping along to the song.

“Our baby girl worshipping to the song I wrote when we lost her older sister at 20 weeks,” Schlueter wrote in the caption.

Schlueter’s story is a reminder that no matter where we are in life, we can count our blessings and be grateful for all that God has given us.
