SUPERMAN premiered July 11, racking up an impressive $615 million at the global box office. It’s the highest-grossing comic book movie of the year so far. It starred Corenswet as the titular hero, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
With the success of SUPERMAN, DC Studios is now ready to launch more projects — and possibly finally overtake comic-book-to-screen rival Marvel.
A sequel to SUPERMAN is already in the works, titled MAN OF TOMORROW.
“We released the fact that we’re coming out with MAN OF TOMORROW last week; it’s going to be out in two years in theaters, on July 9th of 2027, which is relatively a short time between sequels because we knew immediately where we were going,” Gunn said while appearing on THE HOWARD STERN SHOW. “And it is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. And it’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it.”
There are plenty of other DC movies and shows on the way, too. For example, SUPERGIRL, is due out next summer.
“SUPERGIRL, the movie, we’re editing it right now,” Gunn shared. “Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, might be the best bit of casting I’ve ever done in my entire life. I think she’s absolutely stunning in the movie.”
Another highly-anticipated DC project that’s in the works? THE BATMAN PART II, which will see Robert Pattinson reprise his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne.
“We start shooting [the film] in spring, probably around the end of April or beginning of May,” director Matt Reeves told Variety. “It’s been a long journey, but I am so incredibly excited. I’m really proud of the script me and Mattson [Tomlin] did, and we’ve started to share it with Robert [Pattinson].”
Reeves, who worked on DC series THE PENGUIN, also teased a potential second season, saying, “We’re in discussions. [Showrunner] Lauren [Lefranc] is thinking hard and we’re talking, so we’ll see. We love the show, and we think our cast is so incredible. The work that Lauren and the writers did was incredible. Our passion was in it, but never in our wildest dreams could we imagine it would have been received in the way that it was.”
There are lots of exciting movies and shows on the way from DC Studios, but while we wait, there’s plenty of time to watch SUPERMAN at home!
