THE CHOSEN Renewed for Season 5, Begins Filming in April

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN has been renewed for Season 5 and will begin filming next month.

“Cameras will begin rolling on THE CHOSEN Season 5 in Utah starting April 11; the series will shoot there for six weeks before shifting to the show’s home base in Texas for the remainder of the production,” Variety reported.

The show’s creator, Dallas Jenkins, told Variety, “The response to Season 4 has been overwhelming so far, which provides a nice lift for us as we head into filming. Of course, we’re about to try to portray the most famous week in the history of humans, so the euphoria from the previous season never lasts long. The entire Season 6 will cover one day, so covering one week in Season 5 feels luxurious.”

Season 5 will pick up right after Season 4 at the beginning of Holy Week.

“This is when the plot thickens, and Lazarus will be hiding at this point because of what’s happened in Season 4,” Jenkins explained. “We are covering in Season 5 the most important week in history. Season 6 is the most important day in history.”

“Season 6 ain’t gonna end well,” he added in a live stream video. “It’s the saddest moment in the history of the human race.”

Season 4’s theatrical run began in February, and it’s now gearing up to make its streaming debut.

“One of the things we’re doing differently this year is releasing all of the episodes in theater,” said Kyle Young, executive vice president of distribution and marketing for THE CHOSEN. “It’s innovative, it’s disruptive. Last year, we did a little bit of that with Season 3. It has been a wonderful experience for fans to watch it in community together, laughing at the jokes and being able to cry together.”

It hasn’t been announced yet when Season 5 will be released or if it will also premiere in theaters.

“However, if production continues as scheduled, the series could premiere sometime in early 2025, based on previous release patterns,” Forbes noted.

Movieguide® previously reported on why some of the actors think fans love the show:

Paras Patel and Noah James explained why they believe THE CHOSEN is so relatable, allowing both Christians and non-Christians to take things away from the show.

“What the show does so beautifully is that it gives you community but also hope in watching that you find yourself in it,” Patel, who plays Matthew, told Movieguide®. “You never know what you need until you see it, right? You never know what you were seeking, and that’s what THE CHOSEN does, and that’s what it does to me specifically.”

James, who plays Andrew, agreed, noting that because there are so many characters on the show, everyone has someone they can resonate with and learn something from.

“It’s really cathartic in that way where there’s so many characters that we dive into so deeply that everyone can find someone and go, ‘Oh, like, maybe I can sort of take something from that. Maybe I can better myself in some way or just deal with tough situations,’” James said.
