THE CHOSEN Returns to Theaters for Season Finale

THE CHOSEN Returns to Theaters for Season Finale

By Movieguide® Contributor

THE CHOSEN is coming back to the big screen!

The first two episodes of Season 3 premiered in theaters last November. A new Instagram post from THE CHOSEN’s account has announced that more episodes from the third season will air in theaters.

“Episodes 7&8 of Season Three are so big they demand to be on the big screen,” the post’s caption read. “And apparently you demand it, too, as the rush for tickets initially crashed the Fathom Events website. But now you can get tickets there or your local listing for our big Season Finale Thursday, Feb 2 or Friday, Feb 3.”

The episodes are still being completed, and the post let fans know that the plans for a theatrical release “will NOT” delay THE CHOSEN’s streaming release.

“Episode 7 livestream will be Sunday, Feb 5 and Episode 8 livestream will be TUESDAY, Feb 7,” the post concluded. “More to come!”

This plan is sure to mean more box office success for THE CHOSEN. Movieguide® previously reported:

The first two episodes of the third season of THE CHOSEN were released in theaters this Thanksgiving, outperforming big Hollywood movies at the box office.

For the second straight week, THE CHOSEN’s episodes made it into the Top 10 list of high-earning movies at the box office.

On week two, THE CHOSEN made No. 9 on the box office ranking list, with $1.6 million in gross ticket sales. Their week one ranking was No. 3, with $8.7 million in ticket sales.

For comparison, SHE SAID, a movie about the journalists who broke the story about Harvey Weinstein’s pattern of sexual abuse, came in at No. 10 on its second week, making $1.1 million.

Many are pointing out that THE CHOSEN’s box office success is sending a message to Hollywood about the kind of content that sells tickets.

“The success of THE CHOSEN shows there is money Hollywood is leaving on the table, but the audience is one they don’t understand,” said Hunter Duesing, a film teacher and co-host of the Midnight Movie Cowboys podcast. “Films like SHE SAID are fashionable for people in the media, but don’t have much appeal outside of a small group.”
