Tori Kelly just announced the June release of her latest album, God Must Really Love Me!

“I was pretty clear on what I wanted to say, which were three pillars: My faith, my marriage and then motherhood,” she told Variety. “I was like, this is the album and where I’m at. From there, it just really started taking shape.”

Kelly continued, “It feels good to look at my life and be like, this is my life. I love it. I’m so happy right now. That’s really why I wanted to call it God Must Really Love Me, because when I took a step back and listened to the songs, it’s a feeling of gratitude, like look at these blessings in my life. God must really love me.”

One of those blessings was the birth of her first child, son Zayden, which provided her with “a rush of inspiration” that “reshaped her creative instincts,” per a press release given to Billboard.

“Before the baby was born I’d tried to work on as many songs as possible, because I thought maybe I wouldn’t want to write once I was in mom mode,” Kelly shared in the statement. “But then everything just hit me at once and right away I knew what I needed to say and exactly how I wanted it to sound.”

Kelly shared her hopes for the album with Variety, saying, “The title is God Must Really Love Me, but at the end of the day, I would love it if people felt that for themselves too. Feel how loved they are, how special they are, inspire them to look at their lives and see what they can be grateful for, spend time with the people that they love.”

“It’s definitely my slow-down type of album,” she added. “Let’s take a deep breath. Let’s go outside, touch some grass and be grateful for what we have.”

The singer-songwriter has been focused on counting her blessings recently; in 2023, she was hospitalized for life-threatening blood clots.

“When I look at just my life, my career and getting to go on these tours, I’m just like, ‘I don’t want to take anything for granted because life as I now have experienced is so fragile,’” she told PEOPLE in 2024. “I’m just holding people a little closer.”

God Must Really Love Me debuts June 12.
