Track star Julien Alfred gave God the glory after being proclaimed the fastest woman on the planet thanks to her gold medal performance in the women’s 100-meter relay.
“Thank you so much,” Alfred began to say in a video from Christhlete on Instagram. “I jumped up in the air. I know my siblings are watching, and I’m just happy it happened. You know, I said to God, I prayed to Him that whenever I win, I’ll give Him the glory always. So, I thank God for bringing me through, for giving me the strength to come so far and Father, I give you glory.”
Alfred of Saint Lucia beat Team USA’s Sha’Carri Richardson to take home her first gold medal and her country’s first-ever Olympic medal.
Faith is a major part of the track star’s life, and she has Romans 8:18 in her Instagram bio, which reads, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.”
The road for Alfred has not been easy. According to Mathrubhumi, “At the tender age of 12, her father Julian Hamilton passed away. Just five years later, shortly before securing a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires in 2018, her aunt Karen Alfred, who had played a significant role in raising her, also passed away.”
Alfred said of her father, “I’m sure he would have wished for me to get this medal and be here for this moment.”
She isn’t the only athlete in Paris who is open about their faith. Others include Rayssa Leal, Hunter Armstrong, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Stephen Curry, Coco Gauff and more.
Movieguide® reported:
Brazilian street skateboarder Rayssa Leal pointed fans to God after she took home the bronze medal in the women’s street skateboarding event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
When the cameras were on her, the athlete used American Sign Language to sign John 14:6: “Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”
The 16-year-old skateboarder also took to her Instagram where she posted another Bible verse. This time it was Joshua 1:9.
“Another chapter in my story,” Leal wrote on her Instagram.
“Didn’t I command you? Be strong and courageous! Don’t get carried away or discouraged…” she included.
