What You Need to Know About Disney’s New Pixar Shows

Disney announced two new Pixar shows are coming to Disney+: a show taking place in the INSIDE OUT universe and an original series about a team preparing for a softball championship game.
The INSIDE OUT show, titled DREAM PRODUCTIONS, is a four-episode series that takes place between the first and second movies. Building off of the new parts of Riley’s mind revealed in INSIDE OUT 2, the show explores the world of dream directors.
“DREAM PRODUCTIONS is an all-new series about the studio inside Riley’s mind where dreams really do come true — every night, on time and on budget,” Disney announced. “Riley is growing up and when her memories need some extra processing, Joy and the rest of the Core Emotions send them to Dream Productions. Acclaimed director Paula Persimmon (voice of Paula Pell) faces a nightmare of her own: Trying to create the next hit dream after being paired up with Xeni (voice of Richard Ayoade), a smug daydream director looking to step up into the big leagues of night dreams.”
The show will follow a mockumentary style and also feature the voices of Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Ally Maki, Kensington Tallman, Liza Lapira, Tony Hale, Lewis Black and Phyllis Smith.
The other series, WIN OR LOSE chronicles eight different characters’ preparations for a softball championship. Taking place over eight episodes, the series will follow a new character for each one.
“WIN OR LOSE reveals what it actually feels like to be in the shoes of eight different characters in the week leading up to the big game — the insecure kids, their helicopter parents, even a lovesick umpire — with incredibly funny, very emotional and uniquely animated perspectives,” Disney revealed.
“These two series really show Pixar creativity at its finest,” said Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter. “We’re excited fans won’t have to wait long for more great content from the world of INSIDE OUT. DREAM PRODUCTIONS offers up a treasure trove of jokes and fun as it digs deeper into one of our favorite parts of the first film, the making of Riley’s dreams. And we consider WIN OR LOSE a major, first-of-its-kind tentpole series, one that really showcases what I think makes our studio great: bold, imaginative storytelling; laugh-out-loud humor; and characters that we can all relate to.”
DREAM PRODUCTIONS will be released exclusively on Disney+ on Dec. 11, 2024, while WIN OR LOSE will become available on the streaming platform starting Feb. 19, 2025.
The release of shows based on both new and original IPs follows Disney’s goal with how it wants to leverage Pixar. Rather than solely make sequels or only focus on new worlds, Disney revealed Pixar will do both to deepen beloved characters while discovering new ones to delight in.

Though there’s been much hubbub about Disney only focusing on sequels to improve Disney Pixar’s focus, it looks like follow-up films aren’t the only things in Pixar’s near future.
“Disney’s subsidiary Pixar is responsible for some of the most successful animated sequels of all time, but as Screen Rant learned at D23 2024: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the mega-studio is not going to simply turn Pixar into a sequel factory…” Screen Rant reported Aug. 11. “In addition to the upcoming sci-fi movie ELIO, Pixar will release another original movie in 2026 titled HOPPERS. Described as a body-swap comedy, HOPPERS will feature the voice talents of Jon Hamm, Bobby Moynihan and Piper Curda.”
HOPPERS features the story of Mabel, a girl who transfers her mind to a robot beaver in order to study animals.
