WHEN HOPE CALLS Finally Lands Season 2 — What We Know

Season 2 of WHEN HOPE CALLS is finally coming to Great American Family nearly five years after Season 1 premiered.
To help you get through the post-Christmas blues, WHEN HOPE CALLS Season 2 will premiere in January 2025 as filming gets underway later this month.
“WHEN HOPE CALLS is a spinoff of Janette Oke’s legendary book series WHEN CALLS THE HEART, which follows a pair of sisters, Lillian Walsh (Kohan) and Grace Bennett (Jocelyn Hudon) to the town of Brookfield, circa 1916. WHEN HOPE CALLS centers on the town’s orphanage and its residents who meet tremendous challenges while creating a hopeful, faith-filled community on the cusp of change in the frontier town while nurturing the children in their care,” Deadline reported.
“We were fortunate early on to understand that Janette Oke’s novel When Calls the Heart and her faith-filled characters have such rich origins that imagining entertainment universes from this world is perpetually an opportunity,” said Bill Abbott. President & CEO of Great American Media.
Season 1 of WHEN HOPE CALLS premiered in February 2020, followed by a Christmas special in 2021 that saw Lori Loughlin reprise her WHEN CALLS THE HEART role of Abigail Stanton.
“There are eight episodes in season two, and while the opening episodes pay homage to the romance of ‘Lillian’ and ‘Mountie Gabriel,’ new characters are introduced that are seminal to the orphanage and children, the sprawling farms and ranchlands, and to the town of Brookfield who welcome a new Constable from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, ‘Mountie Michael’ ([Christopher] Russell),” GAF reported.
Movieguide®’s 2024 Visionary award winner Brad Krevoy will executive produce alongside Cara Russell, Lorenzo Nardini and Amy Krell.
“Producer is Kym Crepin. Supervising Producers are W. Michael Beard and Michael Shepard. Director is Bradley Walsh. The spinoff series is created by Alfonso H. Moreno,” Great American Family reported.
The future of WHEN HOPE CALLS was uncertain for a long time, as Movieguide® reported last year:
Fans have eagerly awaited news of WHEN HOPE CALLS season two since the initial season premiered in 2019, but actress Morgan Kohan shared that the next chapter may never come.
“It’s a show that keeps popping up by to say ‘Hi,’ but you never know,” Kohan told HELLO. “I think it’s a really beautiful world, and I’m so happy for my time in it. I think maybe, at a point, I would [return to the show] but I’m really excited with where my career is taking me now.”
“I was really, really special but I feel like a different person now from when I was filming that show,” she added, explaining that even if the show does return, she likely won’t be part of it.
WHEN HOPE CALLS follows the story of two orphaned sisters who were separated as children but reunited as adults. Fans were first introduced to Kohan’s character, Lillian, and her sister Grace (Jocelyn Hudon) during a 2018 WHEN CALLS THE HEART Christmas special – WHEN CALLS THE HEART: THE GREATEST CHRISTMAS BLESSING.
