Why This JESUS REVOLUTION Producer Tells Stories That Inspire

By Movieguide® Contributor

JESUS REVOLUTION producer Andrew Erwin is opening up about his career of sharing positive stories with others.

He began by explaining the vision behind his brand “Kingdom Story Company.”

“The thing about, you know, our brand that is the most important is that word ‘story,’” he said on his podcast. “It’s Kingdom Story Company, and so story is really what drives everything we do.”

“So, I was like I love storytellers, and storytellers [don]’t] just have to be film people,” Erwin explained. “It can be, you know, authors and musicians and there’s all sorts of different kinds of storytellers, but just being able to…find out what had inspired them and and how they kind of use that to inspire other people.”

Creativity and curiosity are at the heart of storytelling.

“Creativity is one of those things that, you know, that you can’t really kind of put in a category and say it has to be this. But there’s certain things that nurture it. I think variety is really, really important,” Erwin said.

“I like being able to do creative things that still, you know, are different ways to work that out without it being just one thing. So, this podcast is part of it,” he added.

The moviemaker’s hunger for creativity and storytelling has followed him throughout his career.

He’s “a director/producer who began his career working as a duo with his brother Jon, known as the Erwin Brothers. After many years of directing award-winning music videos for artists like Skillet, Switchfoot, Michael W. Smith, and Amy Grant, they went on to produce the award-winning 9/11 documentary THE CROSS AND THE TOWERS,” his biography reads.

More recently, Erwin has worked on movies such as I STILL BELIEVE, AMERICAN UNDERDOG, Teddy Bear Award® winner JESUS REVOLUTION and UNSUNG HERO.

His encouragement to those who want to inspire others?

“Find a story that you have to tell, and it moves your soul to a point of obsession, you can’t stop thinking about it and those are the ones that are worth you know fighting for,” he advised.

Kingdom Story Company has several new movies in the works.

WHITE BIRD will hit theaters on Oct. 4.

“From the world of WONDER, which sparked a movement to ‘choose kind,’ comes the inspirational next chapter: WHITE BIRD. Struggling to fit in at his new school after being expelled for his treatment of Auggie Pullman, Julian (Bryce Gheisar) is visited by his grandmother (Helen Mirren) and is transformed by the compassionate and heroic story of her attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during WWII,” a synopsis reads.

The production company’s next project, THE BEST CHRISTMAS PAGEANT EVER, will release on Nov. 8.

It follows “six siblings who sneak into church searching for snacks and walk away with the lead roles in the town pageant” and is directed by THE CHOSEN’s Dallas Jenkins.

Movieguide® previously reported on Erwin’s brother, Jon:

Prime Video will produce faith-based content as the streaming service partners with Jon Erwin’s newly created Wonder Project to bring the studio’s first series, HOUSE OF DAVID, to life.

“HOUSE OF DAVID follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride,” the show’s logline reads. “A prophet prepares to overthrow him – anointing the outcast shepherd boy David as a second king. As Saul’s fury grows, David navigates love, violence and politics in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. Two kings. One kingdom. The outcome is war.”

Though a secular company, Prime Video’s interest in faith-based content is understandable given the recent track record of Christian projects. THE CHOSEN and SOUND OF FREEDOM have both proven that there is a wide audience interest in faith-based projects that can provide blockbuster returns without a notable budget.

The recent success of faith-based content also encouraged Erwin to fulfill his dream of creating The Wonder Project. Propelled by the genre’s current popularity, The Wonder Project is a banner Erwin hopes will be an enduring name in entertainment that consistently delivers quality faith-based content.
