COLD HEAVEN

What You Need To Know:

COLD HEAVEN is a thriller about a young woman caught between her lover and ex-husband. The movie's theme revolves around the idea that marriage is a commitment and a sacred trust between two people. The theology of the Virgin Mary appearing to Marie will be suspect to many; however, as a spiritual analogy of the impact of infidelity on a partner, COLD HEAVEN is a strongly moral film.

Content:

(LL, VV, M, B, C, Ab) Upholding the sanctity of marriage, COLD HEAVEN is marred by: 16 obscenities & 6 profanities; man hit by motorboat & vomiting blood; sexual innuendo; rear male nudity & upper female nudity; Mariology; and, a belief in visions.

More Detail:

COLD HEAVEN focuses on the crumbling marriage of Alex (Mark Harmon) and Marie Davenport (Theresa Russell). Marie commits adultery and plans to tell Alex. In a twist of fate, Alex is killed in a boating accident. However, Marie returns home only to find Alex waiting for her. Alex’s struggle in and out of death parallel her wavering between fidelity. When she devotes herself to Alex, he gets better. When she is drawn to her lover, Alex collapses. To complicate matters, she sees the Virgin Mary telling her to “Tell the priests to rebuild the Sanctuary,” which she does. The priest interprets it as an admonition to rebuild the sanctuary of her marriage. A surprising ending for a film most viewers would consider arty and a little risque.

Unfortunately, the film is marred by obscenity and rear male nudity (at a distance). On a positive note, the movie’s theme revolves tightly around the idea that marriage is a commitment and a sacred trust between two people. The theology of the Virgin Mary appearing to Marie, and Alex’s dying and being resurrected will be suspect to many. However, as a spiritual analogy of the impact of infidelity on a partner, COLD HEAVEN is a strongly moral film.
