(B, C, V, FR, NA) A wholesome film which emphasizes the Christian principles of love, acceptance, restitution, and redemption as well as the vital need for and importance of family and an emphasis on the proper and kind treatment of animals. Good triumphs over evil and greed. There is no bad language, sex or nudity. A car crashes through a gate, with no injuries. However, there is a reference to Indian lore and boy repeats a prayer by an ancient Indian figure. Also, there is a slight anthropomorphic representation of the whale.

In FREE WILLY, 12-year-old Jesse, in desperate need of love and the security of a family, recognizes similar needs in his new-found friend Willy, a 7000-pound killer whale. Jesse is running from the law, as well as his last foster home, when he is caught defacing walls and windows at an adventure park. While cleaning up the mess he has made, Jesse meets Willy and is amazed and intrigued by the enormous creature. Willy takes notice when the youngster stops his work to play his harmonica. The sound attracts the orca and an amazing friendship begins. Jesse comes to understand Willy’s struggle living in the North West Adventure Park and knows there can be only one solution…FREE WILLY.
Jason James Richter makes his feature film debut as the troubled and rebellious Jesse. His portrayal of a hurting young boy who needs love is accurate and believable. An excellent case is made in support of the family and the undeniable benefits of keeping the family intact. Shot in the Pacific Northwest with some beautiful ocean scenes and scenic photography, this film is well made and very clean, to the point of being refreshing. Even the “bad-guy” isn’t sadistic or twisted. The acting, is adequate for the story-line. Look for FREE WILLY to be a big hit. It is a great treat and suitable for the entire family. Just bring plenty of tissues.
