LOADED is the feature film debut of writer/director Anna Campion. Moody and cinematically fresh, it absolutely has no plot nor premise. The movie starts with seven college-age hippies arriving at an abandoned old mansion in England. Their goal is to create a low budget horror film. The razor thin plot involves Neil, who wants to make love to the frigid, Rose ( played by Catherine McCormack, last seen as Mel Gibson’s wife in BRAVEHEART). As the horror film is progressing, newcomer Lionel arrives on the scene with condoms in hand and instantly makes the moves on Rose. Neil is not pleased and tells his friend Giles that he wishes Lionel were dead. Giles suggests that thinking such a thought might make it come true. Real horror occurs after a night of everyone dropping LSD. Judgment is impaired and suppressed emotions are let loose.
In an attempt to created something intelligent and moody, Campion merely bores and frustrates. A mixed bag of philosophies, these characters explore every code of ethics, but a morality. In particular, we see justification for murder, clouding your mind with drugs and creating new metaphysical realities merely by thought. Additionally, these young adults drop acid, argue and have sex. Loaded with problems, it is a philosophical mess.
