More Detail:

NIGHT ON EARTH is a tranquilizing, humdrum docudrama about cab drivers maneuvering dirty, banged-up vehicles, cursing and picking up undesirables. The story begins in Los Angeles where Corky, a smutty-faced, teenage cab driver with a cigarette behind one ear and another one dangling between her lips, picks up a casting agent named Virginia. Virginia offers Corky a role in a movie she is casting; Corky rejects the offer; and, each goes his separate ways. The next stop is New York where a German cabbie speaks fragmented English and drives with one foot on the accelerator and the other on the brake. The movie then jumps to Paris, then to Rome and then to Helsinki. In each city, the only thing that changes is the cab drivers and their customers.

Obviously, NIGHT ON EARTH is a lifeless movie about people without hope or vision. In spite of its R rating, the movie contains no violence and two uninteresting, flickering, brief bedroom scenes. Although the melodic sound track is catchy and the performances are credible, there isn’t any reason to see this movie unless you are deeply fascinated with cab drivers. It lacks suspense, action, sentiment, pulse, and entertainment value.
