What You Need To Know:
THE CELESTINE PROPHECY is a very low-budget movie, with amateurish direction, poor acting and laughable special effects. The script’s relentless attempts to push New Age nonsense onto its audience are insulting and offensive. Like THE DA VINCI CODE, this movie is a work of fiction with a very dangerous message. With a no-name cast, amateurish production values, and dialogue consisting mainly of spiritual gibberish, THE CELESTINE PROPHECY plays like a long Latter Day Saints commercial. MOVIEGUIDE® strongly urges audiences to avoid this harmful, false movie.

(PaPaPa, FRFRFR, EvEvEv, H, C, B, ABABAB, L, VV, N, A, MMM) Very strong New Age pagan worldview with very strong false religion worldview based on feel-good New Age religion, religious pluralism and dangerous religious syncretism as well as a very strong emphasis on the premise that humans are evolving into a state of peace and euphoria, plus humanist elements portrayed by one character who denies the afterlife as well as Christian elements positively portraying Catholic priests and the writings of St. Francis as well as moral elements of kindness, love, peace and compassion, but also some very strong attacks on the exclusive claims of Christianity which the movie claims are an obstacle to the New Age evolution of human progress to perfection; one light obscenity and two light profanities; moderate violence including several scenes depicting explosions, gunfire and light bloodshed; no sexual elements; brief naturalistic upper male nudity in a couple of scenes; light alcohol use depicted when three men have a drink as passengers on an airplane; no smoking; and, deception, very bad pseudo-intellectual philosophical, spiritual and theological notions, and bad role models.
More Detail:
THE CELESTINE PROPHECY is a low-budget movie adaptation of James Redfield’s best-selling New Age novel. It is being released in a limited way around the world, but it is also apparently being shown at many New Age meetings and gatherings.
The movie follows John Woodson’s quest for self-discovery during an excursion to Peru, where he hopes to obtain enlightenment through ancient scrolls known as the Celestine Prophecy. As John seeks to quench his spiritual curiosity, he crosses the paths of several people who open his eyes to a sacred world he previously failed to recognize. The prophecy, he learns, contains nine insights that will guide human evolution to a state of peace and harmony, including a greater understanding of the “coincidences” one experiences, an awareness of energy fields, and the notion that one’s thoughts and actions are often guided by a Higher Power.
Many Peruvian political and religious leaders are threatened by the spiritual revolution the scrolls predict and are therefore determined to destroy the obscure writings before they become influential. These circumstances set the stage for John and other believers to protect and translate all the insights of the Celestine Prophecy before time runs out.
THE CELESTINE PROPHECY is a very low-budget movie, with amateurish direction, poor acting and laughable special effects. The script’s relentless attempt to push New Age nonsense onto its audience is insulting and offensive. Christians in particular will be annoyed at the story’s assertion that Christianity is useful only in that it contains some elements of Truth, like other major religions. The exclusive claims of Christianity and other religions, the movie claims, are obstacles to the evolution of human progress to perfection.
Like THE DA VINCI CODE, this movie is a work of fiction with a very dangerous message. Unlike THE DA VINCI CODE, however, few people will see this movie due to its very limited distribution and overwhelmingly negative reviews. With a no-name cast and amateurish production values, THE CELESTINE PROPHECY plays like a long Latter Day Saints commercial. MOVIEGUIDE® strongly urges audiences to avoid this harmful, false movie.
