What You Need To Know:
The numerous fights and a spectacular car chase in DAY OF RECKONING are inventive and shot extremely well. They’re accompanied by a solid music score and above-average acting. There are surprisingly thoughtful moments as well. John has to decide how far he’ll go to defend the honor of what he believes was his family. He also struggles to attain his own free will and stop being controlled as a programmed killer. However, the violence and foul language are excessive. There are also some gratuitous lewd moments in UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING.

More Detail:
UNIVERSAL SOLDIER: DAY OF RECKONING is a surprisingly well made science fiction action thriller considering that it is the fifth in a series of B movies.
The plot follows a Universal Soldier, a reanimated dead soldier brought back to life to test if they can be used again in warfare, named John. He’s led to believe that three other Unisols (as they are called), led by the evil veteran Luc Deveraux, have beaten him and killed his wife and daughter. As he seeks revenge, he starts to realize that nothing is as it appears. Eventually, he’s forced to question what visions from his past are genuine memories and which are false memories implanted to test his emotional stability.
Ultimately, John realizes he has to break free from all control. He also decides that, even if his family memories are fake, he would rather have thoughts of family love than no experience of it at all. This earns the story some slight moral redemption.
The numerous fights and a spectacular car chase in DAY OF RECKONING are mostly inventive and shot extremely well. They’re accompanied by a solid music score and above-average acting for this style of movie. There are surprisingly thoughtful moments as well. John has to decide how far he’ll go to defend the honor of what he believes was his family. He also struggles to attain his own free will and stop being controlled as a programmed killer.
Altogether, this is a very well made movie for the low-budget sci-fi action genre. However, the violence and foul language are excessive. There’s also some gratuitous lewd content.
