What You Need To Know:

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO by Kevin Smith is the story of two platonic friends who make a pornographic movie together because of tough financial times and end up falling in love. Zack and Miri are school age friends who are also roommates. When their heat and water are turned off, they decide to make a pornographic movie with a few friends in hopes of making money. They discover after shooting their sexual scene together that they are in love. There are a few misunderstandings that accompany this revelation, but in the end, the couple is restored.

The pervasive sexual content in this movie is overwhelming, both visually and in dialogue. There is no scene without offensive visual imagery, explicit nudity or perverse dialogue, including hundreds of obscenities and vulgarities. The movie’s overall message is that sexual relations outside of marriage are “normal” and that only by having sexual relations can a couple know if they are “in love.” Pornography also is glorified. More Detail:

ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO is the story of two platonic friends who make a pornographic movie together because of tough financial times and end up falling in love.

Zack and Miri are school age friends who are roommates. They attend their 10-year high school reunion, only to realize that their lives are going nowhere. When their heat and water are turned off, they decide to make a pornographic movie with a few friends in hopes of making money. They discover after shooting their sexual scene together that they are indeed in love. There are a few misunderstandings that accompany this revelation, but in the end, the couple is restored.

The story, while predictable, is well written. There is an emotional connection between the two leads when they do realize their true feelings for each other. The music score is well done and the production values are strong.

However, the movie’s worldview and content are so terrible that no amount of good production values mean anything. The pervasive sexual content is overwhelming, both visually and in dialogue. There is no scene without offensive visual imagery or perverse dialogue, including a foul language count in the hundreds. The movie’s overall message is that sexual relations outside of marriage is “normal” and that only by having sexual relations can a couple understand if they are “in love.”

In addition, the story contains positive homosexual characters. There is full front nudity from both genders. Pornography is also glorified. Images and discussions that should not be seen or said are played for laughs.

Media-wise viewers will want to avoid this movie for its perverted content.
