More Detail:

THE GORGE is a riveting action thriller about a man and a woman who are highly trained operatives hired to guard a mysterious and dangerous gorge in a project supported by eastern and western world forces. A romance blossoms between the soldiers from opposite sides of the ravine. When they uncover the horrors down below, love gives these once lonely people the courage to work together and fight the evil that lurks beneath them. THE GORGE contains violent attacks, explosions, shooting, stabbing, an off-screen suicide, a few strong but brief obscenities, and an implied love scene between an unmarried couple. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises strong caution for older children and young teenagers.

Levi, portrayed by a screen favorite Miles Teller, is one of the best sharp shooters in the world. Down on life, connected to no one, he is hired by Bartholomew, played by Sigourney Weaver, for a solitary high security government job guarding a gorge at an undisclosed location. On arriving, Levi is given details of his job from the last soldier to guard the gorge, J.D. When Levi asks him what’s down there, J.D. exclaims that it’s “the door to Hell.”

The gorge is a joint project of both eastern and western governments. Levi soon learns that he’s not protecting the gorge from outside intruders, but rather protecting the outside world from “hollow men” who try to get out of the gorge. Levi sets his sights on a beautiful Russian soldier, Drasa, who guards the gorge from the other side of the chasm. The two manage to communicate over the gorge which separates them.

Levi makes the leap to cross over to the other side to meet Drasa. The two soldiers fall in love. However, Levi falls into the pit. Drasa jumps in to save him.

Bedlam ensues as monstrous hollow men try to kill and eat them. Levi and Drasa escape many twists, turns and attacks in the place they refer to as Hell. However, they discover the gorge isn’t actually Hell, but it’s a place where great evil takes place. Now that they have something to live for, will the couple simply try to escape, or do they care enough to stop the evil and save humanity?

THE GORGE is an action-packed thriller where love wins the day. The movie has a strong redemptive worldview. After Levi professes his love to Drasa and she returns the sentiment, Levi proclaims that he will fight because now he has “everything to live for.” The main characters risk their lives to save each other. They sacrifice their lives to save all of humanity from evil.

THE GORGE has a slow start, but ultimately delivers. Strong acting, thrilling action scenes, and creative graphics will keep many and probably most viewers on the edge of their seats. The strong story of sacrifice, courage and the power of love to give meaning in life, along with just the right amount of jeopardy make THE GORGE a winner.
