Fox to Air a Musical Based on THE PASSION Hosted by Tyler Perry

It’s not news that live TV musicals are fighting for a comeback. They’ve had a somewhat shaky start (“The Sound of Music” and “Pan”), but the quality seems to be improving with every show.
Fox is the latest to throw their hat into the ring with a live musical event airing on Palm Sunday. The PASSION, a two hour musical event, will air on March 20, 2016. Hosted by Tyler Perry and produced by Adam Anders, the special will be centered around the life of Jesus.
Anders commented about the special saying, “THE PASSION is one of the most exciting and compelling projects I have ever been involved. I cannot wait to bring the greatest-story-ever-told to life through music, in a way that has never been heard before.” The musical will be set in modern day New Orleans and will feature a variety of popular music performed by a cast of today’s biggest stars.
The story will follow the events in Jesus’ life beginning with the Last Supper through the Resurrection. It will also feature a procession of people carrying a 20-foot cross through the streets of New Orleans, ending on the bank of the Mississippi River. Tyler Perry will host and narrate the entire special.

The president of Fox, David Madden, says that they are very excited to have Tyler Perry be a part of the production. “He is the perfect host to lead the cast, and viewers, through the streets of New Orleans in this contemporary re-telling of a timeless story.”
To produce the event Fox has partnered with some of the biggest producers of live event entertainment including, Dick Clark Productions, Eye2Eye Media, and Anders Media Inc. A Dutch version of the event has been produced annually by Eye2Eye Media in the Netherlands since 2011 where it has become a pop culture phenomenon. The hope of the network and producers is that it will be just as successful within the United States.
THE PASSION will bring together music with the life of Jesus in a way that we have never seen before. This will definitely be a Palm Sunday event you won’t want to miss.
