Kanye West’s Sunday Service Bumps Transgender Musical Performance at Paris Fashion Week

Kanye West’s Sunday Service bumped a transgender musical performance at Paris Fashion week over the weekend.

French transgender female Phia Menard was set to perform until her show got cancelled so West could present the Gospel and worship with his Sunday Service choir.

Reporter Rana Moussaoui  explained:

But French trans performer Phia Menard was furious that her “Maison Mere” (“Mother Ship”) show was pulled at just one day’s notice to make way for the golden couple of American pop culture, claiming the audience was told it was cancelled for “technical reasons”.

Menard — one of the discoveries of the Avignon festival in 2018 — refused to take the news lying down, with her and her fans lambasting the theatre and West as an “imposter” on social media.

She accused the theatre of lying “so they could cash in on a religious ceremony and the money the Donald Trump-supporting rapper” could pay them, the 49-year-old juggler wrote on Facebook Monday.

Menard said she felt she had been treated with “contempt”.

“I am an artist, a trans woman, the director of a company, and I refuse to accept this denial and contempt,” said the performer, who transitioned in 2008.

West, who started his Christian Sunday Service in 2019 was in France with his wife, Kim Kardashian West, to premiere his Yeezy Season 8 fashion line.

Vulture reported that West invited guests to the service on Saturday night before the Sunday performance.

Kardashian West and her sister Kourtney Kardashian supported West as he sang amidst his choir in beige outfits. The rapper’s wife also put videos of the service on her Instagram stories.

This isn’t the first time West has taken his Calabasas Sunday Service choir to perform far from home. Upon releasing his gospel album, “Jesus Is King,” West said that he and his choir would go on tour soon thereafter.

Previously West has traveled to Louisiana, Miami and Houston to share his Jesus-centric music.
