LAST MAN STANDING’s Tim Allen, Nancy Travis Reflect on Their On-Screen Family as the Series Ends

As fans anticipate the final episode of LAST MAN STANDING, co-stars Tim Allen and Nancy Travis reflected on their time together on the show.
After nine seasons of the Baxter family, their final appearance will air on Fox on May 20 at 9 p.m. ET.
“Our prop guy said, ‘Which of these did you want to take?’ and it was pictures of the family from the hallway that was going away,” Allen, 67, recalled. “I walked in and looked at Nancy and [I’m] literally surprised I got through that scene.”
“She really looked at me [and said], ‘Are you OK?’ and I was not OK,” he added.
Travis, 59, who stars alongside Allen as his on-screen wife, said it was challenging to leave LAST MAN STANDING.
“It’s the nature of what we do,” Travis said. “But this job, in particular, we just all formed such close bonds and relationships.”
“I’ve got all these pictures of the cast and I haven’t put them up because it’s a bit too soon still to me,” Allen added.
Not only did they portray a family on the show, but both Travis and Allen said that everyone involved with LAST MAN STANDING became like family.
“I’ve done this a lot,” Allen said. “I’ve never been more impressed with camera, directing, crew, lighting, sound and a staff – no conflict of egos.”
Travis added: “We just tried to portray a family and the nuances of a family, and the relationships within a family. To be able to bring that into somebody’s living room every single week is pretty incredible.”

The veteran comedian and actor, known for HOME IMPROVEMENT and TOY STORY, said it was challenging to end the decade-long adventure.
“To be very honest, I have had problems letting go of this one. It’s just been three or four weeks and I’m literally just feeling better. Never have I enjoyed, outside of HOME IMPROVEMENT and maybe moments of GALAXY QUEST, one of these jobs,” Allen said. “This crew, from the guy at the gate to Radford inside to people we ate with, I loved every second of this experience.”
The series finale features back-to-back episodes and airs on Fox. In the past, LAST MAN STANDING underwent sudden changes when ABC dropped the show, but Fox renewed it. Allen said that filming the final season was painful because he knew it was his last time as Mike Baxter.
“This set, I looked at every set piece. I walked through every hallway over and over again, always looking around. It didn’t help. Having this pulled from us several times like that, you get used to sudden death and for some reason I prefer that,” Allen said during a press conference. “For whatever reason this was the end of the nine-year stretch on this. [It’s] very difficult on me.”
