Blake Shelton Brings 6-Year-Old Waiting on Heart Transplant on Stage to Sing ‘God’s Country’

Grab those tissues. Country music superstar Blake Shelton just shared the most precious performance with his “biggest fan.”

At a recent concert, Shelton spotted a young face in the crowd who was there with his mom for the show. Wyatt and his mom, Harley, are holding up a sign that reads: “Your biggest smallest fan from Lake Texoma, six years old. Waiting on a heart transplant.”

In a video shared with TMZ from Wyatt’s mother, Harley McKee, Shelton takes notice of the sign and after reading it, hands Wyatt his guitar pick. He eventually asks if Wyatt can join him up on stage.

Shelton pauses, takes a deep breath, and says, “Think y’all are having a bad day – put that into perspective right there, man.”

When Shelton reads the other signs and reveals Wyatt’s request to sing his favorite song with his favorite singer, the crowd goes wild. A towering 6’5” Shelton kneels next to little Wyatt and the two belt out “God’s Country” together, along with the cheering crowd.

Wyatt was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, meaning the left side of his heart didn’t grow. Now, at age six, he’s been waiting for a new heart for more than a year.

Wyatt’s mom shared his story with KPLC news:

“There just might be some things in life that he might not get to do ‘cause we don’t know his outcome. When will he get a heart transplant? Will everything be all right? Will it last? So, his life is just – it’s always unknowns. Anybody’s us unknown, but his is more unknown.

Shelton’s faith is evident in the very song he and Wyatt sung, with lyrics reading:

I guess that’s why they call it God’s country
I saw the light in the sunrise
Sittin’ back in the 40 on the muddy riverside
Gettin’ baptized in holy water and shine
With the dogs runnin’
Saved by the sound of the been found
Dixie whistled in the wind, that’ll get you Heaven bound
The Devil went down to Georgia, but he didn’t stick around
This is God’s country

In an article featured on Movieguide®, Shelton says of the song:

“I was in a place that I consider to be God’s country doing the thing that makes me feel the most connected to God, which is working on the land. I heard that song, and I had one of those moments that you hear people talk about … where they say they pulled over on the side of the highway and listened. I literally had that moment.”

“I believe in God now more than I ever have in my life,” The Voice coach said. “The biggest part of that is just how (Gwen) came into my life and now our relationship. It’s just too weird. If you take God out of it, it doesn’t make sense. If you put God into it, everything that’s happened with us makes sense.”
