‘[God’s] Plan Is Beautiful’: Jalen Wilson, Kansas Rally For NCAA Championship

By Movieguide® Staff

On Monday, April 4, the No. 1 seed Kansas Jayhawks took on the No. 8 seed North Carolina Tarheels in the NCAA Championship game.

By halftime, the Jayhawks trailed the Tarheels 25-40, with the prospect of the team’s first March Madness Championship win since 2008 growing further from reach.

However, sophomore Jalen Wilson and the Jayhawks rallied in the second half of the game. They defeated North Carolina 72-69, earning the team their fourth national championship in program history.

Despite their slow start, 11 second-half points from Wilson helped lift his team out of the 15-point deficit.

For Wilson, the victory meant just as much to him off the court as it did on it. Before the start of the Jayhawks’ season, Wilson was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. After going through a rehabilitation program and missing the first four games, Wilson thanked God for the opportunity to help his team and inspire others.

“I didn’t stop fighting, I didn’t stop believing, I kept going,” he told KUsports.com. “To anybody going through adversity of any kind, I’d say just embrace it. Don’t run from mistakes or hard times because I think at the end of it is definitely something special.”

“I love the life God has blessed me with and the people he has around me every day,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram post. “His plan is beautiful and I wouldn’t change a single thing. I pray this new year is full of even more blessings and new opportunities.”

Ahead of the team’s appearance in the finals, Wilson tweeted: “Thankyou God, without your blessings I wouldn’t have any of this????????????????”

Wilson joined the prestigious Jayhawks program in 2019 and recognized God’s plan in his life.

“It’s been a crazy journey,” Wilson said of his decision three years ago. “I just had texts last night talking about this was my top two coming out of high school and stuff like that. It’s just how God works. He puts you in weird positions like this — and fun positions.”

“This is the place that I always wanted to go to in my heart,” Wilson said. “I knew that I always wanted to be here. When I had the second opportunity to come here, I just felt like it was God giving me the right opportunity to come here and live out my dream as a kid, and now it’s all paying off.”
