How Danny Gokey Overcomes Difficult Situations: ‘Choose Life’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian singer-songwriter Danny Gokey wants to remind his fans that they get to choose how they respond to difficult situations in life.
“I wanna remind you guys that your response to any situation will make it better or worse. This is why it’s called responsibility: your ability to respond,” he said in a recent Instagram video.
“The Bible says, ‘Today I put before you life and death; choose life.’ You can choose death, but choose life – you’ll make it better,” he continued.
“It’s ultimately YOUR choice. Choose to be humble and choose life (God’s way), and you’ll live a life of peace and favor from God,” Gokey added in the post.
Losing his wife at 28, Gokey is no stranger to difficult situations. However, he has made the most of hard times by clinging to Christ to keep moving forward. In keeping a promise to his wife, Gokey tried out for AMERICAN IDOL only a month after her death, a decision that launched his music career.
“I’ll tell you this, I wanted to take my own life. I hated the pain I was in,” he said of that time. “I didn’t want to go to the show, but it was my last opportunity because of the age limit. I was 28. Even though I didn’t want to go, I’m glad I did because it expanded my view of the world. The show actually helped bring me healing.”
“God reinvigorated my soul with life again,” Gokey shared, and the singer has gone on to create several chart-topping songs.
“I’ve seen God move in my life, I’ve seen God help me pull through significant losses and through different seasons of anxiety and depression and everything that brought me out was always hope,” the singer explained, as Movieguide® reported.
He continues to spread a message of hope and perseverance through his music and his “Stay Strong” tour, which began at the end of September.
Movieguide® previously reported on Gokey:
Christian artist Danny Gokey is warning people not to “drift” from their faith and to “hang on to God’s word” through difficult times.
Gokey rose to fame after competing on AMERICAN IDOL and has racked up over a million monthly listeners on Spotify.
In a series of videos he posted to social media, Gokey shared that he thinks the “most dangerous thing” Christians face today is “the drift.”
“It’s very subtle, and sometimes you don’t even catch it,” he said. “Therefore we should be more attentive to what we have heard, lest we drift away.”
