Danny Gokey Encourages Fans to Start a New Chapter: ‘A Second Chance’

Danny Gokey pulled an example from the Gospel of John to explain how to get over a difficult situation in life and start a new chapter of healing.

“How long are you going to stay in that place of depression for? How long will you keep excusing the unforgiveness? You know, we find a situation here in John 5, one man who has been disabled for 38 years,” Gokey said. “Have you been in your condition for a long time…Have you been feeling stuck?”

“When Jesus saw that he was in that position for 38 years, He said to him, ‘Sir, do you want to get well?’ I believe Jesus is asking us that same question,” he continued. “But it’s interesting how this man responds, and he says right here, ‘Sir,’ the disabled man answered. ‘I have no one to put me in the pool when the water is stirred up, but when I’m coming, someone goes down ahead of me.’”

“You know, it’s interesting; we have a lot of excuses of why we are in that place, and a lot of times we’re justified. What did happen to us was very painful, but still the question remains: do you want to get well? And when this man gave Jesus his excuse, Jesus still answered, and He said, ‘Get up, pick up your mat and walk.’”

Gokey believes that God is offering that same healing to us. However, we still have to be willing to get better. We have to be willing to do the necessary work to move on, and God will grant us healing.

“The word of God says that everything is working together for my good,” Gokey said. “Do not allow your feelings to keep dictating how you will respond, but master those feelings and make a choice to get up at God’s word. Begin to walk, begin to fulfill your destiny, begin to forgive, because that is how we overcome—by His grace working through us.”

“Don’t make the excuse, don’t stay on the mat, pick it up and begin to walk into your destiny and future. There is healing in front of you. There’s hope in front of you. There’s peace in front of you. There’s a second chance. There’s a new chapter. But you have to let go of the excuses and put a period on that last chapter so you can start the new chapter of your life,” he added.

Gokey’s teaching is a great reminder that God is waiting to move in our lives; all we have to do is ask, and He will work all things for our good.

After getting his start on AMERICAN IDOL, the singer has continued to point fans to Christ through his music.

“To this day, I now do Christian music full time, and it’s still the same DNA,” he told Fox News. “It probably wouldn’t have mattered what kind of music I did. I think the DNA of hope and belief in God is intrinsically in my DNA and in my music.”

Earlier this year, he dropped “I Got You.”

“It’s a reminder that when you’ve got God by your side, you can face whatever might come your way! Even when your world is shaking, stay strong in His love, believing that He is with you & will bring you through,” he said of the song. “My prayer is that this song encourages you to stand firm in that & keep praising, no matter what!”

Worship artist Danny Gokey recently took to Instagram to remind his followers of a soul-stirring Biblical message: God’s love has the power to purify sin and guilt.

“Whatever you’re going through right now, whatever disappointment, whatever tragedy, whatever mistake you made, can I just remind you, it’s working together for your good?” Gokey asked his social media followers. “He says in Romans 8:28, ‘For we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God and those who are called according to his purpose.’ I want to remind you if you’re in Christ, it’s all working for you.”

“And don’t just stop at that verse. And it goes on; it says, “Those who he predestined, he called, and those he called, he justified, and those who justified, he glorified.’ If you’re in Christ, you’ve already been justified,’” he said.
