Tim Allen is returning to ABC with a new pilot order for sitcom SHIFTING GEARS.

“In the project, Allen plays Matt, the ‘stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins,'” Variety reported.

The actor and writers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully are also slated to executive produce on the show.

“We are at it again!” Allen announced on X. “ABC just ordered a comedy pilot, SHIFTING GEARS.”

Many fans commented on their excitement for the new series.

“Looking forward to it! Watched HOME IMPROVEMENT as a kid and fell in love with LMS as an adult. Good luck and godspeed!” one follower wrote.

“So exciting!!!! Can’t wait to watch!!!” someone else commented.

Since LAST MAN STANDING ended in 2021, Allen has stayed busy, most recently in Disney+’s THE SANTA CLAUSES. “In that series, he reprised his role as Scott Calvin/Santa. Also at Disney, Allen has served for decades as the voice of Buzz Lightyear in Disney’s Oscar-winning TOY STORY franchise,” Variety reported.

However, the actor’s future at Disney is unknown at the moment as THE SANTA CLAUSES hasn’t been renewed for another season. “The Calvin family comedy has yet to hear on a third season renewal and we hear there won’t be a new installment for this upcoming holiday season but it could return in 2025,” Deadline reported.

Regardless, if THE SANTA CLAUSES is picked up for a third season and SHIFTING GEARS gets promoted to series, Allen will still be able to do both since both series are produced by 20th Television.

Stay tuned for more information on Allen’s new role in SHIFTING GEARS as it makes its way to ABC in the near future.
