What’s the Most Popular New Year’s Resolution for 2025?

By Movieguide® Contributor

A new survey has found the most popular resolutions people are making for 2025, from eating healthy to spending more time with family.

Topping the list at 21% of those surveyed was “to save more money.”

“Planning to save more money is once again top of mind for many Americans making resolutions for 2025,” data journalist Anna Fleck said of the survey’s findings. “Data from a recent survey by Statista shows that one in five U.S. adults are committing to the financial goal.”

Nine percent of people are resolving to “reduce spendings on living expenses,” like food and utilities.

Fleck added, “Vows to eat healthier, exercise more and lose weight were the next most commonly cited resolutions this year, picked by between 15-19 percent of respondents.”

Fourteen percent of respondents are hoping to spend more time with their families in 2025.

Another popular resolution? Spending less time on your phone.

For those looking to digitally detox in 2025, Meridith David, Ph.D., associate professor of management at Baylor’s Hankamer School of Business and digital media behavior expert, has some tips.

“Track your phone use,” she counseled. “You might be shocked at how much time you spend on social media.”

David also recommended setting time limits when using the apps that “take up most of your time on your phones,” as well as “shut[ting] off notifications. They cause distractions from other activities and can pull you back into social media.”

Others are choosing not to participate in the tradition, with “four in ten U.S. respondents [saying] that they do not plan on making any resolutions for next year.”

According to AP News, young people are more likely to make a New Year’s resolution.

“A majority of U.S. adults say they intend to make a New Year’s resolution of some type, but millennials and Gen Z are especially likely to be on board — about two-thirds expect to do so, compared to about half of older adults,” the outlet noted

AP News also reported that most people are thinking positively about the coming year, with “about 4 in 10 say[ing] 2025 will be a better year for them personally.”
