Christian golfer Scottie Scheffler remains the best golfer in the world after he tied the lowest score on the PGA Tour — again.

While at the THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in Texas, Scheffler shot 31-under par and secured the first title of the year.

“The first wire-to-wire winner @CJByronNelson since 1980! Scottie Scheffler gets his first victory of the 2025 season in dominant fashion,” the PGA Tour wrote in a post on X.

The win was extra special because Scheffler secured the title on his hometown course in McKinney, Texas.

“I grew up coming to watch it. This was my first start on the PGA Tour when I was in high school,” Scheffler said after he won THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. “The girl I was dating at the time is now my wife. We have one son. My sister was caddieing for me at the time. She was here today; she has two kids. My family was all able to be here, and it was just really, really special memories, and I think at times it all comes crashing down to me at once. We have a lot of great memories as kids coming to watch this tournament. I just dreamed to be able to play in it, and it’s more of a dream to be able to win it.”

In addition to being at home, Scheffler wanted to win this tournament to honor the late Byron Nelson, who passed away in 2006. When Scheffler was a kid, he had the opportunity to meet Nelson, a moment he will never forget.

“When I think about this tournament, I think about Mr. Nelson. I think about what he did for the game of golf. He was a man of faith, and he was a great person as well off the golf course. He was a person that I’ve read a lot about. I’ve had the opportunity to meet him a few times when I was a kid, and I know a lot about him. He was a tremendous player and a tremendous person,” Scheffler told the PGA in the press conference.

Scheffler recently attended the Master’s Club Dinner.

“It was an honor to sit amongst these men during this year’s Masters champion dinner #themasters,” the golfer wrote.

Scheffler includes “Christ-Follower” in his Instagram bio and often refers to his faith on the course.

After winning the Master’s last year, he told the media, “My buddies told me this morning, ‘My victory was secure on the cross.’ And that’s a pretty special feeling to know that I’m secure for forever and it doesn’t matter if I win this tournament or lose this tournament. My identity is secure for forever.”

Though Scheffler’s grateful for his most recent win, he knows that regardless of his performances, his strength and identity come from God alone.
