Christian artist Danny Gokey took to Instagram encourage his followers to hold on to God, even when life gets hard.
“Was the last season you went through painful? Was what they did to you unforgivable? Or maybe your own mistake? Is this really hard to let go? You wish you could redo it again?” he asked.
He shared how, throughout the Bible, God changed people who’d made mistakes or were hurt by others.
“You know, look at someone like Paul who killed Christians, but then he met Jesus Christ, and God used him to become one of the biggest proponents of the gospel. He wrote two thirds of the New Testament,” he explained. “Or look at someone like Joseph, who was unfairly sold by his family to a foreign land, but yet God used him to save his whole family and all of Israel.”
Gokey then referenced 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, which says, “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.”
“What’s my point? You know, Paul says like this. He says, for these light afflictions are but only for a moment,” Gokey continued, referencing 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, which reads, “For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.”
“What moment are you in? Don’t let yesterday’s moments ruin tomorrow’s moments,” the AMERICAN IDOL alum encouraged. “The Bible says it’s achieving a greater glory inside of you. It’s only for a moment. So, keep holding on.”
People in the comment section thanked Gokey for his encouragement.
“🙌🙌THANK YOU… Going through a really hard season right now with my older kids😢…I NEEDED this🙌” one person said. Another fan added, “Beautiful words…thank you!”
Gokey’s recent music video and song “Only for a Moment” shares this message wonderfully. The troubles that we face in this life are temporary.
The chorus to the song says, “It’s only for a moment / So keep holdin’ on / It’s only for a moment / No it won’t be long / His plan for you is perfect / And this season has a purpose.”
Currently Danny Gokey is using his platform not only to encourage those going through a hard time, but to do something to help them. He is currently on his “Sound of Heaven” tour through August, and for every show he plays, he is donating $500 to the Salvation Army in that city.
“Music is a powerful way to lift people up — but we wanted to do even more,” Chris Farnsworth, Managing Director of Awakening Events, said of the collaboration. “By teaming up with The Salvation Army, we’re making sure that the hope we sing about reaches beyond the stage and into the heart of every community we visit.”
Gokey’s example is an amazing reminder than whether or not we find ourselves going through difficult times, we can still reach out and do something to help others.
