MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE hosts Egypt Sherrod and Mike Jackson shared heartbreaking news as HGTV has decided to cancel their show after season four failed to capture a large audience.
“Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we’re met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE,” a joint statement from Sherrod and Jackson said, per Variety. “While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans. Grateful that our businesses continue to thrive. And most of all, grateful that we are still very much married to real estate (and each other).”
“There’s more to say, and we’ll share soon. But for now, know this: not all setbacks are what they seem. Some blessings show up in disguise,” the couple continued. “We’ve been here before. We’ll keep continuing those blessings and keep it moving forward. Stay tuned.”
Though disappointing, the news of MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE is not particularly surprising as the show struggled to pull an audience of more than 200,000 viewers last season, compared to 750,000 regular audience members during Season 3.

MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE is one of four shows that were canceled by HGTV at the end of June. Though these decisions were based on low viewership and cost, many fans have nonetheless expressed their rage over so many shows being canceled at once. The other shows canceled were FARMHOUSE FIXER, IZZY DOES IT and BARGAIN BLOCK.
“At this point [HGTV has] canceled so many shows that I’m very interested to know exactly what the plan is,” one fan said, according to PEOPLE. “I have to assume they’ve got things in mind to replace these and not just more HOUSE HUNTERS.”
Whatever the case, these cancellations point toward the struggles the cable industry as a whole faces as shows have to be a smash hit to be worth it for studios to produce. As more and more consumers cut out cable completely in favor of streaming, even more shows are getting cut, even when they have a sizable following. Meanwhile, big stars are expected to shoulder more pressure as their shows make up a larger share of the network.
While it is disappointing that MARRIED TO REAL ESTATE was canceled, hopefully Sherrod and Jackson will be back on air soon with another show that allows them to continue to chase their passions.
