What You Need To Know:

FREAKIER FRIDAY is a sequel to the 2003 Disney movie FREAKY FRIDAY. Anna is an adult with a teenage daughter, Harper, and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily. Trouble arises when Anna falls in love with Harper’s arch enemy, Lily’s, father, Eric. Supportive grandma Tess adds comic relief as the family grapples with the engagement and a possible move to London. At Anna’s bridal shower, the four females speak to a psychic. When the clock strikes midnight, they switch bodies. With Lily and Harper in Tess and Anna’s bodies, they decide to sabotage their parents’ upcoming wedding.

FREAKIER FRIDAY is very entertaining. It has a redemptive, moral worldview and premise about family dynamics and making sacrifices. The story also tackles the complex topic of letting go while learning to forgive. However, the movie has elements of false religion as it presents the notion that souls can swap bodies, which is false. There are also occult elements where a psychic palm reader initiates the body-swapping experience. FREAKIER FRIDAY is a heartwarming, fun sequel to FREAKY FRIDAY. MOVIEGUIDE® advises serious caution for older children, teenagers and adults.

More Detail:

FREAKIER FRIDAY is a sequel to the 2003 Disney movie FREAKY FRIDAY that revisits two characters, a mother and her daughter, as they navigate another body switching experience with an unexpected twist. Twenty-two years later, Anna is now an adult with a teenage daughter named Harper, and a soon-to-be teenage stepdaughter, Lily. Through many hilarious predicaments, the women learn about communication, understanding one another and moving on.

When single mom Anna falls in love with the father of her daughter Harper’s arch enemy, Lily, trouble is sure to arise. Supportive grandma, Tess, adds comedic relief as they grapple with Anna and Eric’s engagement and possible move to London. At Anna’s bridal shower, Tess and Anna speak to Madam Jen, a goofy multi-hyphenated jobbed psychic, who senses they have walked in each other’s shoes before. Harper and Lily also visit the psychic, who tells them to “Change the hearts you know are wrong, to find the place where you belong.”

When the clock strikes midnight, the four characters switch into each other’s bodies. Anna swaps bodies with her daughter, Harper, and Tess swaps with Lily, forcing the women and the teenage girls to live each other’s lives. Harper and Lily decide the psychic’s words meant they are supposed to sabotage their parents’ wedding. Secretly, they plan to break up their parents. Through many hilarious scenarios, the women learn that love and sacrifice are more important than their selfish desires.

FREAKIER FRIDAY is a very entertaining movie. The writing is quick and witty, with a dash of goofy fun. The California location offers a beautiful backdrop to the action. The movie features great acting from leads Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as the supporting actors. The costume and set design create an immersive world that embellishes a relatable atmosphere. The first act moves a bit slowly leading up to the switch. However, the rest of the story quickly makes up for the slower moments with laughter. Despite a few unclean camera transitions that may pull some viewers out of the action, the plot’s entertaining enough to keep moviegoers engaged.

FREAKIER FRIDAY has a redemptive Christian worldview and premise. It focuses on family dynamics and the importance of doing selfless acts. However, there are elements of false religion as it presents the notion that souls can swap bodies, which isn’t true. The movie also contains occult elements as the psychic palm reader speaks words over the characters, which is the gimmick used to initiate the body-swapping experience. While Madam Jen is extremely goofy and holds down many different jobs other than being a psychic, a running gag throughout the movie, the Bible explicitly condemns the notion of characters turning to a palm reader for answers.

Overall, the story tackles the complex topic of letting go while learning to forgive and accept those around you. FREAKIER FRIDAY is a heartwarming movie filled with plenty of laughs and a fun sequel to FREAKY FRIDAY. MOVIEGUIDE ® advises serious caution for older children, including teenagers and sensitive adults, due to light occult elements, some crude humor, adult themes, and light, brief foul language.
