Don’t think you have anything in common with NBA stars? Think again.
“Every day is a wild experience, and I’m enjoying every little bit of it,” NBA champion Steph Curry said of parenting as a pro athlete. “Fans would see there’s no such thing as balance, but you try every day to figure it out.”
Curry and his wife, Ayesha, share four children: Riley, 13, Ryan, 10, Cannon, 7, and Caius, 15 months.
“We’ve got a really cool spread now with a 13-year-old and a 15-month-old, so we’re seeing a lot of it on a daily basis,” he said.
Like any parent, Curry had to learn that each child needs something different from him as their dad.

“Your ability to communicate and build trust with each one individually — like, you set up rules for the house, but each one has to be parented a little differently,” he explained. “That’s the cool part of the experience as a parent, and I’m loving every single minute of it.”
“They all teach me something every day…they’re hilarious — they ask questions that make you think,” he continued. “There’s not anything super specific, other than realizing they’re so unique. They all came from the same place, but they have such different personalities.”
Though their lifestyle isn’t necessarily typical, the Currys have some ground rules that keep life more normal for their kids, namely consistency. The couple knew from the very beginning that the kids wouldn’t attend games on school nights.
“That’s the one part of the parent playbook that we kept — just cut, copy, and paste,” Curry shared. “And to me and Ayesha’s kind of expectations, it’s priorities first. You know, on school nights you gotta make sure you’re getting your rest so you can get to school, have a good time, and learn. If you’re not taking care of your homework or your chores, you lose privileges that way.”
Curry talks more about parenting in his new memoir, Shot Ready.
The point guard’s memoir takes readers on a “transformative philosophy of success — centered on preparation, constant improvement, creativity, connection, mindfulness, and joy — delivered in his incomparable voice and style. Stunningly designed and illustrated with more than 100 gorgeous photographs, Shot Ready is an intimate narrative and a practical blueprint for any reader who wants to unlock their own potential,” a description of the book reads.
The book released on Sept. 9 and is already a New York Times bestseller.
“None of this happens without all of you showing love and support. Truly grateful!” Curry shared in a post on Instagram.
While the Currys’ life might look a little different from yours, their focus on consistency and teamwork in parenting is something any mom or dad can relate to.
