Millie Bobby Brown may be known for her starring role on STRANGER THINGS, the hit sci-fi drama set in the ’80s, but for her, family keeps her grounded, both on set and off.

The actress was only 10 years old when she landed the role on the series, and the now 21-year-old is concluding her time as Eleven. In a discussion with Vogue, she said, “It’s like a death of someone you love. I was 10 when I started, so this is like a family to me; not just the cast, not just the crew, but the entity of STRANGER THINGS.”

The show first premiered in 2016. Season 5 is on the way and will be the final installment. The first four episodes will release on Netflix on Nov. 26, while the next three will arrive Christmas Day. The finale hits screens on Dec. 31.

Despite the sadness of the show’s ending, Brown is turning her attention to something more important: her family.

The actress married her husband Jake Bongiovi, son of rock star Bon Jovi, in May of 2024, and the couple announced they adopted a daughter earlier this year.

“This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy,” the pair wrote in a joint Instagram post on Aug. 21.

“It’s been a beautiful, amazing journey – she’s taught us so much already,” Brown told British Vogue of her daughter and family life. “Perspective is a huge thing. The smaller things in life are so much more precious. Our days are filled with lots of cuddles and laughter and love. It’s just endless joy.”

She added of Bongiovi, “We are 50-50 on everything. That’s why I’m so grateful to have partnered with him in this life – he is just the most amazing dad.”

Brown’s love of family is encouraging in a cultural climate where many people are embracing childlessness.

“The percentage of nonparents who don’t want to have children rose from 14% in ‘22 to 29% in 2023. And that suggests that the prevalence of child-free people in the U.S. has been growing over the last 20 years,” Michigan State University psychology professor Jennifer Watling Neal said of childlessness in America.

It is refreshing a young celebrity like Brown embrace family and want to protect her daughter from the foibles of fame.

“For me, it’s really important to protect her and her story until she’s old enough to potentially one day share it herself,” she said, per PEOPLE. “It’s not my place to purposefully put her in the spotlight unwillingly. If she chooses to share her personality one day with the world, like I did when I was young, that’s something we’d support.”

As celebrities such as Brown embrace marriage and family, maybe it will encourage others to realize the importance of the family unit and the joy that can be found in it.
