Could the “Christy Miller” books finally be coming to streaming?

“Waiting for the Balboa Island ferry and thinking, praying, waiting for doors to open for Christy and her Forever Friends to come alive on the screen,” Robin Jones Gunn, the author of the popular book series, posted on Instagram.

She added, “So many meetings. So many steps. So many prayers. What are your thoughts in a Christy Miller streaming series?”

Followers shared their excitement at a potential “Christy Miller” show, with one writing, “Yes!!! Oh, I would love it. Your books are cemented in my teen years that have left their mark on me. I was a young girl growing up in Southern California too and I went to all the places where your stories took place. Cant wait to share them with my daughter one day and this would be the icing on the cake 🙂 how fun.”

Gunn was always a storyteller, even as a child, but said she often got in trouble for “telling stories” and “exaggerating.” It wasn’t until years later, after marrying her husband, that she began pursuing writing seriously.

“He even signed me up for a writers conference at Mount Hermon in California,” she said. “I was shy, intimidated, not a writer. He paid money so that I could go sit in front of people and prove I was [not] an imposter.”

Gunn began writing articles and picture books, but it wasn’t until she received a challenge from some teenage girls that the “Christy Miller” books were born.

“The Christy Miller series was actually born when a group of thirteen-year-olds challenged me to write a novel,” she shared, via Penguin Random House’s website. “I’d been questioning the content of their favorite books when they said, ‘Why don’t you write a book for us?’ I told them no, I only wrote picture books.”

She continued, “But they persisted: ‘How hard could it be? We’ll even tell you what to write! We want a love story with teenagers at the beach.’ And there you go. Summer Promise first released seventeen years ago and is now translated into five languages. I continue to hear from readers all over the world, many girls saying that they gave their life to Christ after reading Summer Promise. I love that!”

There’s no official word yet on whether or not Christy Miller and her friends will be coming to streaming, but fans are hopeful they’ll see their favorite books brought to life!
