Could wedding bells be in the future for these WHEN CALLS THE HEART characters?
“This is how rumors get started,” Ben Rosenbaum, WCTH actor and Erin Krakow’s husband, captioned an Instagram post.
The photo shows Krakow’s trailer with a label that reads “Elizabeth Hickam” — the last name of Rosenbaum’s character Mick Hickam.

Fans loved the actor’s joke, with one commenting, “listen, we’re here for a plot twist!!!!,” while another wrote, “Soooo who’s gonna tell Mei and Nathan?!?!?!?,” referring to Rosenbaum and Krakow’s characters’ love interests.
Production on Season 13 of WHEN CALLS THE HEART is currently underway, with a recent post from the show’s Instagram account promising, “We’ve got MORE WHEN CALLS THE HEART coming your way in 2026.”
Plot details for upcoming episodes are scarce, but the show did let one exciting piece of news out — model and actress Brooke Shields is returning to Hope Valley! Shields first appeared in Season 3 of WCTH, playing Jack’s mother, Charlotte Thornton.
“We’re thrilled to welcome back Brooke Shields to the WHEN CALLS THE HEART family,” Michelle Vicary, head of programming at Hallmark Media, said in a statement. “Her first appearance on the series was memorable for our fans, and we know the Hearties will be delighted to see Charlotte’s emotional and heartwarming reunion.”
Shields spoke to PEOPLE about reprising her WCTH role, saying, “What’s been difficult is just adapting to 1922 from where I was because the jump is just so extreme. But we’re also seeing Charlotte evolve, which has been interesting. We create a path for her to modernize.”
Should Elizabeth get remarried?
All that modernizing means the end of one of the actress’ favorite parts of appearing in WHEN CALLS THE HEART.
“She’s not riding horses anymore, which is sort of sad because I really liked that,” Shields shared, joking, “I liked sort of swashbuckling in.”
Krakow, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, told PEOPLE, “I have been crazily wanting to get Brooke back on WHEN CALLS THE HEART for years. I am so excited we were able to make the timing work. She is a dream to work with.”
In addition to Shields, LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE’s Melissa Gilbert is also set to appear in the new season, reprising her role as Georgie McGill, a character first introduced in Season 12.
It looks like WHEN CALLS THE HEART fans will have to wait and see what brings Shields’ character back to Hope Valley — and whether or not Rosenbaum’s joke turns out to be an unexpected plot twist!
