SARAH’S OIL is a fantastic movie hitting theaters on November 7, 2025. The team at Movieguide® loved the pre-screening and can’t wait for you to see the movie too! Here are the Top 5 reasons you should see SARAH’S OIL in theaters this weekend.

BASED ON A REMARKABLE TRUE STORY

The movie follows Sarah Rector, “an African American girl born in Oklahoma Indian Territory in the early 1900s, and she believes oil is beneath the barren land she’s allotted. Eventually, her faith is proven right,” a synopsis reads. “Following her discovery, Rector encounters greedy oil sharks and immediately turns to her family, friends, and some Texas wildcatters to maintain control of her oil-rich land.”

AN INCREDIBLE CAST

SARAH’S OIL stars Teddy Bear Award® winner Zachary Levi, Naya Desir-Johnson and Garret Dillahunt alongside Sonequa Martin-Green. It’s directed by Teddy Bear Award® winner Cyrus Nowrasteh, who co-wrote the script with Betsy Giffen Nowrasteh.

SARAH’S REAL-LIFE FAMILY APPROVES

“To see this movie, you couldn’t have done it any better,” said Sarah’s real-life niece Deborah Brown. “Portraying our grandparents and our sister being as a child.” Another niece, Donna Brown-Thompkins, added, “It connected with what we know.”

AN UPLIFTING SOUNDTRACK

The movie features spirit-filled Gospel music that will transform any theater into a place of praise and worship. Songs include traditional favorites like “SHALL WE GATHER AT THE RIVER?”, “NOBODY BUT YOU LORD” and “DO LORD, REMEMBER ME.”

SARAH’S OIL has a Christian worldview and tells a faith-based story about redemption, perseverance and the importance of family bonding. You’ll see characters pray on screen, sing classic hymns and overcome insurmountable odds.
