Taylor Cain Matz, one third of the sibling worship group CAIN, opened up about a very difficult season in her life, explaining that despite hardships, she feels hope in God.

“I feel like the last couple years has not been one major thing. It’s just been continual, hit after hit,” she began a recent Instagram video. “There’s something where you are pregnant. Not a lot of people experience it, but it’s called hyperemesis, and that just means you throw up every day.”

She added, “I would get multiple IVs weekly. It just takes a toll on you. You know, you have this awesome blessing coming to your family, but I couldn’t even celebrate.”

In addition to hyperemesis, she faced other physical ailments.

“And then I had something called osteochondritis,” Matz said.

The Mayo Clinic defines osteochondritis as “a joint condition in which bone underneath the cartilage of a joint dies due to lack of blood flow. This bone and cartilage can then break loose, causing pain and possibly hindering joint motion.”

Matz continued, “They said eventually that my knee would blow out, and in January of this past year, it did. like it just took me out while I’m dealing with my knee injury and waiting on surgery for that, my voice comes out, and it was just like the final straw on everything.”

Her husband suggested that all of this was God’s way of “shaking” Matz.

“He was like, ‘Taylor, what if all this has been for God to shake you?’” she recalled. “It made me so mad at him at first.”

She then tearfully read Romans 5:3-5, which says, “Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”

Matz concluded, “Today. I’m bringing you guys along the journey in the middle of it. But if it helps somebody, and it points into the hope, it does not want us to shame, then that’s what we want to do. That’s why I sing, I made it.”

CAIN’s new song, “I Made It,” is inspired, in part, by Matz’s story, along with trials her siblings recently endured.

The chorus to the song says, “I’m coming out the other side stronger, One foot in front of the other, Hands still raising, Heart still praising, I made it.”

“…my hope is that being honest will help someone else,” Matz said of the song and her story. “Maybe you haven’t faced one big traumatic event, but the little things keep stacking up and you feel like you can’t catch a break. If that’s you, just know I’m still in the middle of it with you. ❤️”

Thank God for His faithfulness, even during the hardest seasons.
