Country singer Anne Wilson used her past experiences with bullying and feeling left out to encourage others who facing the same thing.

“Hey, it’s Anne Wilson, and I’m so excited about my brand-new devotional called ‘Hey Girl’ that is out now,” she began a recent Instagram video. “I want to share one of my favorite parts of this devotional with you guys.”

She continued by sharing a certain page in her devotional and the story behind it.

“This is Day 26 titled ‘The Best Kind of Friend.’ I share a story about how when I was in junior high school, there were girls that were really mean to me. I went through a lot of bullying in high school and middle school, I always felt very insecure, I never had confidence in who I was,” she summarized.

Wilson explained that when she realized she already had a best friend who loved her and uplifted her, things began to change.

“It wasn’t until I realized that God had given me already a best kind of friend, which was my sister,” she explained. “I realized that the Lord had already blessed me with a friend who was sticking closer than a brother. She was encouraging me always and reminding me of my worth in Christ. I think it’s so important for girls to surround themselves with girl that lifts them up and encourages them and reminds them of their identity in Christ.”

Fans in the comment section were thankful for the reminder.

“That’s for sharing your heart, Anne!” one person commented. Another person added, “Nothing sweeter than having a sister as your best friend.”

1 John 3:1 reminds us of who we are in Christ. It reads, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”

In addition to her new devotional, Wilson leads an online community that she calls “Hey Girl Nation.” The website explains, “Hey Girl Nation is a movement and community for girls and women of all ages to connect with new friends, find daily inspiration, and spread the message that Anne Wilson shares in her song, ‘Hey Girl’: feel empowered just as you are because your worth is defined in Christ alone.”

Let’s remember to befriend those who seem lonely this Christmas season.
