Savannah Banana star Robert Anthony Cruz, also known as “Coach Rac” on Instagram, shared some helpful tips on how to discern if what someone is saying is biblically accurate.

“How do you know if someone is manipulating the Bible for their own selfish reasons?” he began. “I’m sure there’s lots of ways, but I found something in Titus 3 that is a very simple test for if someone is using this the wrong way.”

He then references a scripture that he believes sheds some light on the matter.

“So Paul writes this letter to Titus, and it’s one of his final letters. It’s instructions for church leaders specifically. Paul says this is what it should look like in the church,” he explained, then quoted Titus 3:1-2: “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.”

Cruz continued, “Let that sink in. Christians are to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate and show true humility towards all. See, like the tone here, it’s very humble. A true reading of Scripture should leave us humble before God, not more prideful. When we’re confronted with the love of God, it should soften us up.”

Cruz explained that the “fruit” that comes out of our lives is also an indicator of our hearts and motives.

“When people teach from scripture, that is the fruit that it should bear,” he said. “You can tell a tree by his fruit. So, if someone is teaching something from the Bible, and it’s out of pride, and it’s stirring up division and controversy, as far as I can tell, that is in direct opposition to what Paul wants for the church, what Jesus wants for the church.”

Ephesians 4:2-3 says, “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.”

Cruz concluded, “So any rage baiting, attempting to own the other side, any mocking or slandering public figures, regardless of who they are, that’s off limits for Christians. I think if we were to just be obedient to these words from Paul and Titus 3, people might start seeing more of Jesus when looking at Christians.”

Coach Rac is a part of the viral baseball team, the Savannah Bananas, who have gained popularity thanks to their positive and uplifting messages.

It was recently announced that Cruz will return for next season and continue encouraging fans with biblical truths.
