Jenny Marrs reflected on a significant season in her life when things did not go as planned and she had to rely on God.

After getting married and getting involved in the building industry, Marrs and her husband Dave decided to start a family, however she faced unexpected difficulty.

“We were like, ‘Okay let’s start a family now.’ We’ve been married, we’ve traveled, we’ve done all the stuff, we have our business, we’re ready,” the HGTV star told “Jesus Calling” podcast.

“All of a sudden, we realized, No, we can’t figure this one out,” she continued. “This is not working, something’s wrong. We can’t do this. We literally cannot do this.” She explained that despite going to fertility specialists for help, nobody knew what was wrong.

Marrs admitted, “I finally feel like I got to a point where I was like, ‘Okay, what are You trying to teach me, Lord? Because I have to believe that You put desires in our heart.’”

She explained how she finally came to a place of surrender with God.

“‘You put this desire on my heart and You’re walking me through this season of complete uncertainty, of complete desperation and reliance on You, and so what do I need to learn from this?’ I said, ‘Lord, even if. I don’t know what this looks like — maybe I won’t ever have children of my own — but I have to just trust that You are walking me through this for a purpose.’”

Eventually, the Marrs family adopted Sylvie in 2014 but had to wait “602 days” until they were able to bring her home. Marrs recently recounted this time in a post to Instagram.

“Eight years ago, I shared this photo and these words. My weary heart needed to read them again today and maybe someone else’s does too,” she posted alongside a photo of an ornament that featured a picture of young Sylvie.

She then repeated the words that she posted so many years ago.

“As I sit by the glow of the tree, steaming coffee in hand, reading about hope and fear and faith…I glance up, right into these eyes. My Sylvie girl…the ornament we hung years ago, with aching, hopeful, anxious, longing hearts. Our first Christmas with a daughter across an ocean.”

Marrs encouraged her audience to trust God even when things don’t make sense.

“I don’t know what you’re facing today, as we enter the season of Advent and walk toward Christmas Day. But I know when you are grieving or longing for healing or waiting for your baby or hurting deeply, this season can be harder than most. It can be a reminder, not of the Hope we look to, but of the one miracle or unanswered prayer just out of reach.

She then referenced Mark 5:36 where Jesus says, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”

She added, “He is faithful and trustworthy. His story for us is never our story for us but it is always good. He has a plan and a purpose and every tear and every moment of waiting and hurting will someday be redeemed.”

Today, in addition to Sylvie, Jenny and Dave are parents to twins sons Nathan and Ben, daughter Charlotte and son Luke.

Praise God for His faithfulness through the Marrses infertility journey and how they surrendered their desire for a family to Him.
